3rd Trimester

"So you can't get prepared at all..

with clothes or a room since you don't know if the baby is a boy or girl?" A client asks me today with a cringe.

You got it lady!  My child will be naked and will be sleep in a box in the garage for probably the first week because God forbid I have this baby wear or sleep in a room thats not blue or pink.

 Hmm

  • I get this a lot too. We also haven't chosen any names, so ours will be nameless living in the cardboard box with newspapers on the bottom.

  • haha! people are so stupid sometimes. Even though we found out we're having a boy, I purposely got all gender-neutral furniture and decorations for the nursery so we don't have to get all new crap the next time around if we're having a girl. We got a lot of boy clothes as gifts from people but we also got a lot of stuff that would work for a girl too. The less specifically boy stuff we have, the better and the cheaper!

This always shocks me.  I mean, if I am going to have baby crap all over the house, don't I want it to watch my house, not the kid's gender?  I always wonder what the hell people are thinking when the register for really girly baby gear.  Where are you going to put that?

LOL, such a good point you have there!!

  • Oooh, I have an idea. Maybe you can swipe some of those paper drapes from the hospital room and fashion little paper outfits for the baby and pick up "I'm a boy/girl" stickers on the way home to festoon the paper gown.

  • I have a blue room for a girl baby... so I'm extra mean.
  • (lurking from 6-9)

We found out that we were having a girl and I still picked mostly gender neutral baby gear. I am of the opinion that just because a baby has a vagina does NOT mean that their nursery should look like a cotton candy machine exploded, lol! All of the major baby gear (i.e. stroller, carseat, swing, high chair) is gender neutral, and anything that was going to be in the common areas of the house was specifically chosen in colors that would blend.

In addition, our nursery is sage, yellow, white and chocolate brown with dark espresso colored wood furniture...completely gender neutral. As a result, the nursery looks stunning and elegant, but still very much a baby's room, and all of the gear can be used with baby #2!

  • We know we're having a boy, but we have no idea what we're going to name him yet.  Everyone who asks just about falls off their chair that we haven't named him!  They can't imagine that we could have gone so far in this pregnancy without names ideas.  lol

Couldn't have said it better myself.
