Balance Check In

One of the 7 B's of AP is Balance. From Dr. Sears:

"In your zeal to give so much to your baby, it's easy to neglect the needs of yourself and your marriage. As you will learn the key to putting balance in your parenting is being appropriately responsive to your baby ? knowing when to say "yes" and when to say "no," and having the wisdom to say "yes" to yourself when you need help."

What have you done to maintain balance this past week?

Re: Balance Check In

  • For our marriage, we did a 90-minute couples spa package complete with massage, foot rub, and lovely soak in a whirlpool tub together.

Also, while DH was home for lunch today, our LO tried his first food, BLW style, and we laughed SO MUCH as avocado slices got everywhere but in our LO's mouth.

For me, it is much harder to take time, but I've just started a 3x/wk running program (which is crazy and awesome and amazing for me to do!), and that is giving me a much needed ME time. Plus, DH and I made a new deal last night where I can actually get a few hrs of semi-uninterrupted sleep each night, as our LO is currently waking up every hr or so. Yikes! :)

It is so hard to remember to focus on ourselves and on me, but I'm so glad that we try so hard. It definitely helps all of us when we achieve balance!

  • I had a great time alone this week!!! DH watched LO for 2 hours and I got to go look at some clothes and read books. It was amazing!

  • We went out on a family date last night. We took LO for a swim and then went out for dinner with her.

It was really nice to get out of the house and to sit down and talk with DH.

  • We went and hung out with friends 2 nights ago. There were about 6 of us and DS. While he slept we had Wii battles and after I had fed him we all sat down to a feast of fish and chips :)

This morning DS and I are off to our weekly coffee group and afterwards we're meeting a friend for $10 lunch at a local restaurant. They make the most amazing Fish Pie, I adore it.

Tomorrow I have a regular lunch date with a friend. Every Friday she takes a 2 hour lunch from work and comes round to my house for lunch. I usually cook something nice and we have a big catch up followed by an episode of True Blood. Since True Blood is over we've moved onto The Vampire Diaries!

DH and I definitely need to find more to do together outside of the house so I'm definitely looking forward to summer arriving. Our local pool closes in winter for refurb, it's re-opening this week so really looking forward to taking DS for his first swim together :)

  • Balance was difficult this week. My husband worked tons of overtime this weekend, and has been late coming home. He was too late for me to go to yoga last night, but I was able to meet some playgroup moms for a glass of wine. The closest we have gotten to balance as a couple was on Saturday night. We went out to dinner with Ada, who only wanted to be held once she decided she was done eating. The owner walked her around the restaurant while we finished eating, so we could, as she put it, "have a tiny bit of a date night".

  • I went to yoga on Friday. That was about it.

This week I'm hoping to do better.
