defrosting frozen milk

Question for bfers - how do you defrost frozen milk to have ready for nanny/daycare/etc...I have been letting it thaw on the counter for like two hours the night before, then when its defrosted, i put it in the bottle and leave in the fridge for the next day. Someone just told me you are not supposed to let it defrost at room temp - has anyone else heard that? How do you do it? TIA!

Re: defrosting frozen milk

  • I put mine in the fridge over night in the bag & it defrosts by morning (it's good for 24 hours defrosted per kellymom.com)...I then put it into bottles in the morning.  I'm not sure if that's the best way or not but it seems to be working out fine for us.

  • I do what the pp does - I put it the fridge over night in the bag & it defrosts by morning.
  • I do what the pp said- let it thaw in the fridge over night in the bags and put it in a bottle in the am. sometimes there's still a little frozen chunk or two, but our DD will only take BM out of a warmed bottle, so I figure the last chunks will melt in the bottle warmer.

  • according to the user handbook that came with my Medela BP you are to either put milk in fridge and let melt or run under water to melt
