Pincher grasp

How are you helping your little ones develop their pincher grasp? I have little puffs and I've been cutting things like green beans and carrots up to help, but we're not there yet. What do you do?

Re: Pincher grasp

  • I haven't started it yet, but with my first one, we'd put puffs/cheerios on her lip so it stuck. Then that would encourage her to grab it and put it in her mouth. (It's pincer, by the way, even though I think it should be pincher). :)

  • We have used blocks as well as puffs. She also has been using our necks and arms to practice.....OUCH! She is really strong and it hurts sooooo bad. She got me on the under side of my arm the other day.

I had no idea!!! And I'm usually pretty decent with  vocabulary!  My auto corrector didn't say anything!

  • I just put a handful of Cheerios on the tray of his walker, on the tray of his high chair, and in front of him while sitting on his blanket.

I use Cheerios because they're sooo much cheaper than puffs and they're still made of good stuff!

He started by picking up the Cheerios by the fistful, and now he's picking them up individually. I also give him mixed veggies for dinner (frozen ones).  It has peas, corn kernels, carrots (about the size of a baby finger), and green beans (same size as carrots), and they are perfect for pincer practice!
