outerwear for LO in winter?

I am torn between a one piece fleece outfit like this for going out of the house in the cold months

OR just put her in a warm jacket and use the bundle me on the car seat?

    My plan is to use the thick one piece for when he'll be outside for long periods of time and to use a coat when he'll be in the carseat.  Our car heats up pretty quickly so I don't think he'll need it unless it's ridiculously cold (in the teens or single digits or something).
