16w genetic counseling, ultrasound, and SEX! PIP VIP

Today I had my appointment at the hospital for genetic counseling and sonogram.  We're doing GC because my husband is of Russian-Jewish descent and his grandmother had a bleeding disorder. The genetic counselor was very nice. She had very extensive explanations for everything, and took a lot of time with us.

Then it was on to the 16 week anatomy scan!  They said this one was "limited" rather than "targeted" because they can't view the heart the way they need to until 20 weeks, but that everything else looked perfect.  I drink orange juice - which I LOATHE - an hour beforehand to make sure the baby would be awake.  He was, but he was pretty chill and content to stay curled up.  I was so disappointed that we weren't going to see what the sex was, but the doctor said, "Hey, we've got a little free time, we could do a transvaginal ultrasound and that should give us the right angle to see the sex if you would like."

Um, YES, thank you!  I was honestly bowled over by how nice the doctor and his staff were being, and they told me they understood how exciting this can be, especially with it being my first pregnancy to make it this far (previous miscarriage at 6 weeks). 

So we did the second ultrasound, and little gummi bear is a...BOY!  I was already convinced he was a he since week 7 or 8, so it was nice to get confirmation.  We also kind of had an inkling this was coming because the 12 week ultrasound tech said that if she had to guess, she would guess boy.   

I'm glad my husband and I won't have to argue about girls names now...  I think we will end up going with a family name for the first name, probably George, maybe Ron (Ronald).

Very excited!  This helped to make it all feel more real.

    Wonderful to hear that everything is looking good for you.  Congratulation on confirmation of a little boy.  So exciting.   

     I'm am staring to get anxious to find out LO's gender with all of these exciting posts from fellow "lucky charms"

    Yay for little boys! 

    Btw, my DH is named George and he was born in Russia!  :)  We never did the testing and now I'm wondering if we should have since he's also Jewish?  I believe we asked last time with DS, but I felt like it was swept under the rug.

    Congratulations! Haha- as if you would ever say "no thanks" to the offer of another U/s- and especially the gender one!! That's great news. I'm so glad you had a good appt! I think George is an adorable name :)
