back pain

Did anyone get severe back pain while pregnant?  I haven't really had any back pain at all... but last night I woke up and there was one muscle in my lower mid to lower back that just really hurt.  No position made it feel better.  I got in the shower and the heat helped... and then I ended up on the couch with a heating pad on it and took tylenol... but it was hurting for a couple hours and it hurt so bad I felt nauseous.  It finally let up and I feel fine now... but I'm wondering if others have experienced this and if you have any tips on how to help it?  or avoid it?  I'm worried about it happening again now in the middle of the night.

    Hate to tell you this but it might be back labor. I remember thinking that labor contractions would feel like big cramps in my front lower abs but I never felt anything like that. Meanwhile, around 36 weeks my lower back started killing me - I was in so much pain. Every position hurt and I could barely walk at times!

    I delivered at 38 weeks (water broke) and all my contractions were in my back. I've been told I have a tipped uterus which might be the reason, but yeah, back pain might equal back labor. GL - you're almost at the end!

    Yes, but mine is(was) more like bone/joint pain.  I also suffered with sciatica related pain with DS1.  I agree with PP - it might be an early sign of labor/BH contractions?

    I've had back pain sink about 15 weeks. Its progressively getting worse, and tends to be when i sleep in a funky position or i am on my feet too long. I'm not even that big, not sure why it happens, but it does! Hope you feel better and hope its not labor yet!

    I did and saw a chiro for it, which helped.  My lower back was especially painful.  Like pp said, if it's contractions and back labor, they SUCK.  I had really bad back labor with DD (she was transverse, didn't know it at the time).  I still don't know how I made it as long as I did with no drugs.  Hope your back feels better.
