i had my test yesterday and had 'abnormal' test results so i gotta go in for the 3 hour test. totally sucks, im entirely freaked out

i already looked up the complications that could happen but what are some of the treatments?

is it just diet changes or are there insulin shots and such as well?

  • Depends on your situation.  I am able to control my daily sugar numbers through diet and exercise, but my fasting numbers were always high, so they put me on insulin at night.

I never noticed that board!  But there are quite a few GD ladies on the high-risk board.

  • I think that most of us were freaked out or upset when we were diagnosed.  I know that I was pretty upset.

I've found the diet quite easy to follow.  I can eat almost everything I was before and I'm never hungry.  It just comes down to measuring portions a little more and ensuring you have the right amount of carbs and protein at each meal and snack.  I got started out by entering everything I was eating into the website Sparkpeople.  It helped me keep track of what I was eating and how much of each food equaled portions etc.

Unfortunately my fasting numbers weren't great, despite all of my post-meal numbers being in range, so I'm on NPH insulin twice a day.  The insulin injections don't hurt at all.

I test my blood 7x a day as well.

Most of the GD ladies are on the High-Risk board so you can always come there for more info.

  • It really depends on your situation. For me, I am on a strict diet and my numbers are still high so I was put on a pill yesterday to try to control it better. If that doesn't work, then I will have to take the insulin shots. Try not to get too upset about it. Most women are able to control it with diet changes and exercise. And I agree, there needs to be a GD board. Good luck!
