NBR: Mary Kay?

A friend recently brought me to a Mary Kay "facial party." Well I should say we were tricked into going by the consultant. They told her she won 4 free facials and when we showed up we found out it was Mary Kay thing. something in which we both knew little about.

Do any of you girls use this stuff? Ive never heard of it and was curious if it was nice stuff or crap. I really didn't like how they went about getting us there. Seems pretty sketchy that they have to lie to girls to show.

Re: NBR: Mary Kay?

  • Hmm..I guess TB ate my last post.

My friend sells Mary Kay and was super annoying about it to the point where I avoided her calls.

The products aren't bad. They seem to be a good quality. I use the pimple cream when I have a breakout and it clears it up pretty quickly. My only complaint is I think their stuff is a little pricey. I'm loyal to my Body Shop products though and use those for every day use.

  • I love the face washes and moisturizers, but the make up doesn't do well with my skin. It either looks greasy or chalky.
  • I love the face wash, moisturizer, eye make up remover, and their foundation.  Aside from that i use cover girl for everything else.  They are a little pricey, but I do love the products.  I buy it from a girl at my church and she is not pushy at all.  She doesn't force anything on you....sorry you had such a bad experience.  I hate when people do sketchy stuff to get you somewhere and try to sell you something!

  • I bought the lotion and face wash and it seems ok. Do I think it's better then my Aveeno...egh. I felt pressured. Well I'm glad that you think it's a nice product. As for buying it again, probably not. The experience rubbed me the wrong way.

  • Ugh, I hate being invited to "facial parties" and finding out its a giant Mary Kay sales pitch.  The worst is after all the "fun" the sales lady pulls you into a room alone for the hard sell.  So to placate her, you say "I'll take a bottle of moisturizer" because you don't want to spend $100 on the "system."  And she says, "you really should by the cleanser, toner, spot treatment and moisturizer because its like baking a cake.  You need all the ingredients for it to work."  Ugh, ok, I'll take a $6 lip gloss?  So uncomfortable.  I don't really wear makeup but people do like the stuff.  I think its pretty high quality.
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

"It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like "What about lunch?" - A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh
  • I really like their eyemake up and foundation - it's better than drug store stuff and cheaper (in price) than sephora stuff....I prefer mary kay make-up and face wash

as far as how they got you there...it's the independent consultant and I probably wouldn't trust her...but mary kay products themselves are pretty good.

  • I tried their makeup once and it made my skin look super oily and flaky. I haven't used it since
  • I love these products and have been using them since I was 18. I stopped briefly in there and tried clinique and some others, but I like Mary Kay the best. Plus, I'm 34 and have no wrinkles and most people guess my age 5-10 years younger. My favorites are the miracle set and the satin lips :)

However, it does sound a little fishy the way the consultant explained it....she should have been honest about what was going to happen. I know that is kinda how they get you to try the stuff, but I don't think the idea is to totally snow you. Just catch your interest with the free facial, but then tell the truth.
