Trying to Get Pregnant

anyone else?

So.... I have my first appointment with an actual OB/Gyn tomorrow.  I had a phone chat with mom a couple of weeks ago and she asked if I had an OB/Gyn yet... I told her that I'd been getting my yearly exams, but no, my Dr. was in internal medicine and doesn't deliver babies....

Re: anyone else?

  • I had one--a great one, that I'd really been looking forward to helping me through the whole process, but she left the practice :(  I have never met any of the other ones at the OB/GYN office, so I hope I get another great one!

  • I just made an appointment with one for early November. A good one is hard to find, especially when you've recently relocated. Before that, I didn't have a relationship with an OBGYN in this area.

  • I do have an OB/GYN, but you will be fine!

I started a search about a year and a half ago.  I first found the hospital that I new I wanted to deliver at and then did a search of OBs affiliated with that hospital.  I was still on theknot at that time so I asked for recs on my old board and also on thenest local board.

    Good luck!

  • I have a wonderful GYN who just recently stopped taking OB patients. She is with another woman in her practice who does still take OB, but she can only handle so many at a time so if I don't get my practice's ONE OB, they have to refer me elsewhere. It's kind of a crapshoot on how many other pregnant women she has when I get KU

  • I have the exact opposite problem. I have had an OB/Gyn for years, but never did establish with a primary care provider. Embarrassed And I don't even have any LOs yet.

  • I don't have one yet. My PCP does my paps. So you are not alone. If I have another CD1 like I did this cycle (horrible, horrible pain with paramedics called), I will get a referral to an OBGYN.

  • Hey you, good luck at your appt. I have always had an ob or obgyn for my yearly exams. I like having the specialist for what ever issue I need them for. Is it a male or female doc? I always had male mds until I moved to pdx and now have a great female doc. I love her. Good luck. I fly home today from maui : (

  • I go to a physicians assistant for my annual exams and any normal doctor visits. I really love her, so I'm waiting as long as possible to make the switch. I plan on going to my SIL's OBGYN when I get pregnant though. I'm glad that I at least have someone in mind, that my SIL trusts and speaks so well of.

  • I am in the same boat...my current Dr is in internal medicine.  When I went in for my yearly exam, I told her that we were going to start TTC and she gave me a list of OB's in the area that she liked.  I haven't called the Dr's on the list yet though and probably won't until I reach the 1 yr mark of TTC or get KU.

I wouldn't worry about it. Smile

  • I don't really have one either. I have a name of one that I hope that I can get an appointment with and I hope they will work out.

  • I don't have a PCP either Indifferent I only have specialists (OB/GYN and Derm) - last year I got bronchitis and didn't have a PCP, luckily a good friend of mine is a fellow in allergy and immunology so she gave me antibiotics (after doing her due diligence and listening to my lungs) - haven't had a need (yet) for a PCP.

DH's Dr told me to get a tetanus shot before we get KU (bc you can't if you are) and I don't have anyone to go to...his dr said maybe my OB will do it but I doubt it.

Oh yea - and I only go to MDs (no DOs, PAs, NPs, RNs) - prob b/c I come from a family full of drs (past, present and future)

  • I don't have one yet. The doctor I want doesn't do regular exams anymore, she's switching to just have KU patients. So I go to my PCP for my annual, and hopefully can get in with this AMAZING doctor (she has delivered all of my friends babies) whenever I finally get KU.
"For I know the plans I have for you,
  • I technically have one because she was the one I used for DD, but I have since decided I dislike her and upon many opinions from friends I'm going to be switching if we get KU again.

  • Thank you everyone for sharing.  I figure it can't hurt to get a relationship status started with an OB/gyn... esp since all my appointments thus far have been at my school's on campus clinic (not very good).  Plus I've been having weird abdominable pains (not O pain and not cramping).

    Thanks again!

I don't have a PCP either.  I hated my last one and just never got around to getting another one.

As for the obgyn, I actually changed mine several years ago when my old one stopped delivering babies.  I picked a new obgyn that my old one recommended and who was affiliated at the hospital that I want to deliver at.  I wanted to have a relationship with her before we TTC, so I figured why wait?
