3rd Trimester

2nd time+ moms...mesuring small???

Is anyone measuring small this time around? My OB said that it could just be the way I'm carrying, but I have to have an ultrasound to make sure the baby is a good size. Anyone else have this happen? If so, was your baby a normal size?

  • I'm just waiting for replies on this one too. I have my growth ultrasound on this tomorrow b/c I'm measuring about 3.5 - 4 cm smaller than due date. I'm pretty sure she's just laying sideways right now, but I'm definitely going to breathe a lot easier after they tell me my little girl is just fine tomorrow am!

  • I am measuring a tad small (usually about a week or two behind), but nothing to be concerned about.  I had my growth ultrasound last week, and he was about 4 pounds, which is right at the 50% mark.  I measured a bit a head of schedule with dd and she was 7 lbs 15 oz and 21.5 inches long.  And she was overdue.  So, we'll see how this one comes out!

  • How long did you have to wait for the growth ultrasound after finding out you measured smaller? I found out yesterday that I'm measuring about 5cm smaller, and my growth ultrasound isn't until next Wednesday! This week is going to take forever. I hope all is well with you tomorrow.
  • this is my 4th baby, and in the past 6 weeks I have had 3 ultrasounds and many non stress tests because baby appears to be smaller than my dr would like him to be.  My last U/s was at 38 weeks and baby was about 5.5.lbs...which isnt too small, but I guess small enough to be monitored.

My other 3 kids were 3.5lbs (preemie), 7lbs and 6lbs 7oz....so it I generally didnt have large babies, guess it is all about how the baby is growing, thriving and how your doc choses to deal with it!!

Best of luck to you!! :o

I had my appt. on Monday and I just asked for their first available u/s appointment which happened to be tomorrow. I was really emotional Monday after the appointment, but after praying and thinking through things logically, I really don't think anything is wrong. She has always been low and my husband and I are both on the small side. Not to mention I had just said the day before that I thought she was laying sideways due to where I was feeling her kick.

It's amazing how slowly time moves when you're concerned about your LO! I hope everything goes well with you too - I guess this is just one of the first of many lessons that we are not in control!

  • I measured small with DD and it warranted an u/s at 35 weeks. This time around I'm measuring small again so we'll do u/s every-other-week for a while to keep an eye on things. In both cases, it was/is due to positioning (DD was transverse until 36 weeks, this baby is still transverse)--it made my fundal height smaller. DD wasn't small when she was born, either--she was 8 pounds, 2 ounces at 4 days late!

  • So we measured at 5lbs 7oz, but he couldn't get a great measurement of the head bc she is so low.  That weight puts her in the 26 percentile for almost 36 weeks.  I don't know what the doc is going to do about it, I don't go back until next Tuesday.  I guess if she needs to see me I'll get a call to come in earlier.  I had my appt. today and the OB wanted the u/s done today or tomorrow, so we went today.

I just wanted her to be at least 5lbs, so 5.7 is good by me, granted she is in the lower percentile.

  • I am.  No one believes that I am having a baby in 4 weeks.  My friends joke that I look like I could be on "i didn't know I was pregnant".  But trust me - the way I've felt - I KNOW I'm pregnant!  Anyway, I had a few ultrasounds and according to their calc's the baby is about 6 pounds which puts her in the 80th percentile at 36 weeks so they aren't concerned.  It worked out for me - hope the same for you!
  • I am, but just barely. Last week I was 34cm at 36 weeks and this week I'm 36cm. I dropped early and she's really low so my stomach looks a lot smaller than it did at this point with my first since I was still carrying VERY high and out. It hasn't been concern for extra ultrasounds or anything, and before I dropped I was measuring a week ahead so it's all in the position mostly for me I think.

Also, DD1 was only 6lbs. 10oz at birth (39w3d) and this one has been measuring around the same size so they aren't expecting her to be much bigger if I deliver around the same time.
