What detergent for baby clothes?

My sister gave me a TON of baby clothes that she saved from my niece. (We're talking like 6-8 laundry loads) Since it's been in storage for about 5/6 years, they smell musty. I figured I'd start to wash it now in case it doesn't get all the smell out and I need to wash them again. Do you use the same detergent with your LO's clothes as the rest of your clothes or do you use something else, like Dreft? We use All F&C right now for our stuff & I know you can't use it for CD, but I'm not sure about the clothes. Thanks.

Re: What detergent for baby clothes?

  • Yup sure can use it on baby clothes! Way better then "baby detergents" that are more expensive and have fragrances anyway. Make sure you don't use dryer sheets though because they can interfere with the fire resistance on the baby cloths.

  • We use All F&C for all our clothes and DD's. :)
  • I use Tide Free & Clear. A lot of detergents that are marketed toward babies are loaded with dyes and fragrance which can exacerbate allergies and eczema.

I think Tide is an excellent detergent at getting stains and dirt out. But I am not opposed to trying other brands as long as they are free of dyes and fragrance.

  • Any free and clear... better for everyone since = less chemicals absorbed through the skin by baby and everyone else.
