We have a padded ring sling which I use and an Ergo Sport Which DH mainly uses (only bc it's a pain to adjust if I use it and then he wants to use it). Problem is DS does not like to face in any more and I don't think you can front face with an Ergo (right?). I want to find a SSC that we can both use that will work through toddlerhood that will allow DS to forward face. I know of the Beco, Pikkolo, looked at the k'tan but think it's too stretchy. I don't mind paying a little more for it if it will last, especially since we plan to have more kiddos.
I would love a site rec for comparing these types of carries as well as any suggestions you guys have. As far as I have been able to tell, there aren't any BW groups near me, but I could be wrong...
Thanks!
Re: Carrier Recs?
The biggest problem you are going to run into is that facing out is not just hard on the baby's body but it is much harder on your body, especially as they get heavier. Your options are very limited for forward carries as they get bigger. I am not sure what the Pikkolo's limits are but I know the word on the Beco Gemini is that people like it for younger, smaller babies and don't plan to use it as they get bigger. Same for the Baby K'Tan.
Have you tried using the Ergo Sport for back carries? We don't particularly like ours for that because DS is down so low. I think your best option is to get a wrap or a mei tai for high back carries. That allows the baby to see over your shoulders and is very comfortable for you. We need to create a spreadsheet of options and opinions!
Maybe I should...and YES, it is scary to me. For some reason I have this (completely unfounded, I know) feeling that something will happen to him if I can't see him. Plus, I have had random people, including employees at the grocery store, touch him when I wear him in the sling, or when I have quickly run in w/him in the car seat so I guess part of me is paranoid about germy people I don't know. I would def feel better about doing it if DH and I were together with him.
