3rd Trimester

is it out of line to ask the Doc to strip

my membranes (you dirty ho's!) when I go in on Tuesday to make sure I am good and ready for the induction on wednesday? I mean is that telling him how to do his job? I am getting scared at all these "it took days" stories I keep hearing. With DS & DD I went in they started a drip, broke my water and within hours NOT DAYS I had an outside baby. BUT I had my membranes stripped days before also... Im torn...

Re: is it out of line to ask the Doc to strip

  • I read the title thinking - Oh!  She must have a hot Dr.!!  Lucky girl!

And, No it's not out of line.   But, stripping the membranes may not do anything anyway.

Do you want to hear a good induction story?

  • I would casually ask about it to feel out your MWs thoughts.  If they seem receptive then be a bit more pushy  If they are all "nope not so much" I wouldn't push it.

I don't think your induction will take days...especially since it is your third.

  • I must be a dirty ho because my mind went right to asking my doc to strip!! He's a good looking dude!

If I were you I would ask. I don't see the harm in asking at all.

  • i don't see how it would be out of line.

    do it. :)

  • If you're dialated enough, I don't think it would hurt to ask. I mean, you could always phrase it like a question, "Would it help for my induction to have my membranes stripped today?"

thats the thing...my MW wont be doing my exam on Tuesday she will be out of town. She is coming home Tuesday night to be here for my Wednesday induction. So it will be the grumpy I have been doing this for way too long Doctor. :( me no like him.

on Monday I was back at 1cm. My MW said if I dont make some progress I could be in for a long L&D. That my friend scared the hell outta me! DD they started me @ 7:30 I had her a little after 2 and with DS they started me about 7 and he was born just after 1. But I cant for the life of me remember how far dilated i was when i went in.

  • they didn't strip mine until after i started my induction- and i still had her that same day.

i think you'd be A-Ok w/o it- however, i also don't think you'd be out of line to ask.

  • I think you SHOULD ask him to strip. See what happens! :-)

  • Ask! I asked my doctor yesterday if she'll strip membranes before going to induction. She said she is happy to do it the day before a scheduled induction, but it's only 50/50.
