I hated the name Cole when we first started talking about boy names. Apparently DH saw it in a baby name book and it "stuck with him." Also he says he thinks he likes it because it is similar to his name, in that it starts with "C," and is one syllable.
Anyway I think I have heard it so much in the last 6 months that I'm starting to like it. I say a name, and DH says, "I like Cole." This happens every time.
So I'm trying to come up with a mn for Cole. I figure since DH picked the name Cole, I get to pick the mn...that sounds fair right?
I'm trying to come up with a family name for a mn. Tell me which one, if any, you like best. We have a 10 letter last name that starts with Long******.
Richard, James, John, Jerome, Francis
Any of these? I'm leaning towards Richard...it's my dad's and brother's name.
Re: DH is wearing me down(baby names if you're bored)
I like the name Cole, and I think Richard goes will with it. From your list I also like Francis. I think you need a two syllable mn with a one syllable first name.
Just wondering, though, because we're having the same problem, if there's enough separation from Cole and your last name. What I mean is, when you say it out load, does it sound like one name/word, or is there enough of a break? I'm only asking because I have the same problem with some of the names we like and our last name. I hope it's ok that I brought this up. I'm not trying to stress you more with names, I swear. We're still in the process of choosing, too.
I think so...this is why we ruled out DH's mn, Alan. I agree with you about needing two syllables.

Of the mn's you listed, I like Richard... but to be honest, I don't really like Cole with your last name. When I say Cole Long******* out loud, I HEAR "colon ******," and that doesn't sit well with me.
We don't have a name yet either, and are ignoring the issue for now.
I agree, actually I have a friend who is Chinese and it's tradition to pass down the father's middle name to the first born son. Well, they love the first name Cole and wouldn't you know that his middle name is Lin. Cole Lin. Yep.
Anyway, I like Richard the best of those.
I think the reason this doesn't bother me is because I don't hear it as "Colon"
It's not pronounced the same as cole-in...idk, it could be kind of a mouthful though. This is frustrating.
I like Cole Richard the best.
Have you (your husband) considered Cole as a nickname for Colton or Nicholas? (I'm sure there are others as well...)
I'm a fan of formal names.
ETA: Just realized as I was lurking, that this is NOT the baby names board. Whoops, sorry for butting in lol.
I like the name Cole! I don't hear it to often either.
As for middle names I like Richard also because it's your Dad's and Brothers name. Second I would chose James out of your list.
Cole Richard
Cole Francis
These are the 2 I would choose from. I like the sound of single syllable FN with multiple syllable MNs or vice versa. I really don't like Jerome.
I like Cole Richard the most because it is a family name (I prefer family names for middle names vs. ones that just sound nice)
At least your husband likes a decent name-mine is stuck on Dexter
