Nursing Pillow - Need Advice

I am looking into getting a nursing pillow and I am stuck between the Kushies and the Balboa baby..

Anyone used either of these? pros/cons ? which would you recommend?

I do not like the breast friend because it wraps around you...

TIA!

  • I registered for the Brest Friend, but I just saw the Balboa the other day, and I think I'm going to go with that. I like how it it tall and lays across your lap.

  • I haven't used either one of those, but I like the way they look. I have a My Brest Friend which I do love, but I like the shape of those two you mentioned, as well. They look like they'd fit snug and get the baby high enough. Can you get your hands on either to see which one sits higher? That's what I'd go with.

I hate the Boppy becuase 1) it doesn't fit around me and 2) DD has kicked it off of me. That's the only worry I'd have with those pillows.... Sometimes when I'm burping Dd in the middle of a feeding she'll kick, and she can shove pretty hard!  So for me, the MBF's latching on is a good thing (plus, lumbar support, mmm)

  • personally I loved my boppy!  it was a sad day when I put it away for good :( I sued it for nursing, DD used it for tummy time, and in the beginning, she even napped in it!

  • Those of you using My Breast Friend -- how the heck do you get them to work? How can you wrangle all that stuff around you AND a baby in your arms? I'm a pretty small person -- even pregnant, and I can't fit it around me. My friend gave me her extra, and I'm about to chuck it and go buy a boppy. I can't figure out how you're supposed to use it at all.

Haha, I can clip it around me one-handed. I've actually been known to clip it around me and  then go get her from the crib in the middle of the night. Otherwise, I stick it around me on the couch, lay her on it, then fasten the buckle.

I wear around a size 14 and it fits me with loads of room to spare.  You've adjusted the velcro part and such to fit, right? I always undo it with the buckle. I didn't really try it while pregnant, but it might have fit me then.

  • I like the my brest friend because it wraps around you.  I used it from day one until about a month ago when DS got too big for it.  My lactation consultant gave me the nod when she saw that I was using it during the first week when I was having trouble with our latch.  I liked that the pillow is secure and in place while I was trying to position DS just so to get the latch correct.  Also, when I got really good, I could walk from DS's room to the living room (we're in a 1 level) with DS nursing the whole time laying on the my brest friend and me  holding he and the pillow in place (didn't do this often but when I did it was handy).  My breast friend also made sure I kept the correct posture during nursing.  I have a boppy too and I know that I tend to slump with it because it sinks in the middle.

There wasn't a trick to putting the pillow on so I don't understand the question.  Baby would start the hungry cry, I took 30 secs to put him down on the chaise, crib or changing table while I clipped on the my breast friend, I sat down on the chaise (in living room) or rocking chair (in nursery) and fed the baby.  Voila, wasn't hard at all.
