3rd Trimester

HELP! Anyone had early contractions and what did they feel like?

I'm not even 30 weeks and I'm feeling a really painful tightening/cramping that is coming and going in my midsection. (Are Braxton Hicks Painful?)

Currently on Pelvic Bedrest with Complete Placenta Previa.

She said go to the hospital right away if I see any bleeding... but haven't had any.

Advice and info on what contractions this early in pregnancy may feel like?

  • I would call just in case. I have painful BH's but not everyone does. Hvae you drank LOADS AND LOADS of water? this will cause more pain with the BH's.bug some water.,,LOTS of water and see how you feel

  • Since you're having that kind of pain so early on, you should call your doctor.

If they are BH, they should go away if you drink LOTS of water, lie down, take a bath (anything to relax).

  • dont quote me, but i think most contractions if they are the real thing are very low and are dull and menstrual....the tightening and whatnot is also a part of it, but i'm not sure what kinda of pain or where you are experiencing pain... BH can be painful.

my nurse said to time them and if the come every 10 mins for at least an hour since you are only 30 weeks, you should call labor and delivery. but what you need to do is rest and drink water.

  • BH contractions CAN be painful and they CAN begin that early, though both are bit less common if this is your first pregnancy.  There's really no way of knowing what's causing your pain (could be BH, gas, or something else) so call your doctor.  Good luck!
  • I'd just call & talk to them.  Maybe you'll go in & they can do a non-stress test or something.  You have so much going on already that it's better to be safe & reassured than kick yourself later.

Good luck & hope all is well!

  • I had this as well!  I had placenta previa at 18 weeks along with painful contractions, cramping and low back pain.  I was put on Indocin and Trebutaline to stop the contractions and I think you should probably be on something as well if you aren't already.  I would talk to your doctor about what to do because your uterus really needs to calm down, not only bc it is far to early to be having contractions, but because of the previa.  The more your body contracts, the more force/pressure it is putting on the placenta and that is very dangerous!
  • thanks, i will let my doctor know at this next appointment.
