So, I was curious about a couple things. Has anyone ever actually used those "baby can read" programs that teaches infants to read basically as soon as they can talk? Personally, not for me, but I am curious to see the opinions of anyone who has tried them or plans on trying it for their baby.
And, what I'm more interested about, is baby sign language. I heard you can teach a baby simple signs (hungry, tired, thirsty) to help them communicate what they want before they can even form words. Do you think this is true? Or has anyone had any success with this idea?
Re: Early baby language
yes, dh could say more and all done for quite some time before he used those words.
He still signs more all the time.
He signs more and say's please, so its kind of funny to us. At least he's polite.
I think your baby can read is a bunch of crap. But sign language is definetly very helpful!!
As an English teacher/Reading Specialist there is NO TRUTH to babies reading. It's not possible. You reading to child, singing, and playing words games is the best preparation you can do.
But the sign language idea is legit and very cool.
I'm actually kinda glad to hear this, lol. People trying to make their babies into Einsteins before they're even old enough to comprehend the world around them makes me sad.
I'm even more glad to see that the sign language works! I think it would take a lot of stress off both me and baby if she can communicate what she wants in any way before she can speak. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for little ones to want something and not be able to get it just because they can't communicate, lol. SO is still skeptical about the idea, but hopefully I can still convince him before DD gets here.
