Washington Babies

September grocery total = $272

so I averaged $68 dollars a week this month. The total was $36 more than last month but last month I only shopped for 3 out of the 4 weeks since I didnt find the website till the first week.

I didnt have to buy any paper goods but will soon need to cause I only have two rolls of paper towels left and I need to make baby wipes. I am debating buying the big pack at costco or just getting a roll or two at a time. still trying to caluclate the better bargin.

I did also spend a extra $20 and scored 4 jumbo packs of disposable diapers for Kai (when parents watch the boys and at night) and that should last us for a long time. so wont need to get those at costco for a while again.

I have worked hard at trying to coupon a bit more and found some great sites to get coupons for the things I actually use. I also have been going over my shopping list and going to manufacturer websites and getting coupons for the things I still need them for.

Brian teases me because it has almost become a game for me and I actually look forward to going to the grocery store!  We did talk however and have decided to add a extra $10 a week to our goal ($60) so that I dont have to feel as strapped when needing to get cat food and personal care products. so our new monthly budget is going to be $280.

next month might be hard since I have Kai's birthday party and that will cost us some extra food, but I am going to try my best to keep that in our budget and see if Ican get a little more creative with what we have on hand to allow for the extra in cake supplies.

Re: September grocery total = $272

  • Just to shock you... Shane and I totaled the month of July (granted we went camping and spent a ton there) and it was easily $1000 for all four of us NOT including any alcohol/Starbucks/eating out. This total was what prompted us to do a budget and financial overhaul.

You are officially my new hero.

  • Seriously, lady, you astound me with your skill at saving money.

I couldn't begin to match it.

  • Awesome!  You might try Rite Aid for some of the personal items.  They have a few different types of rewards programs, and a lot of times you can manage to get stuff for free if you combine with coupons.  Yesterday I got free mouth wash, toothpaste, Olay moisturizer and Olay regenerist eye treatment.

  • Wow!  I jsut looked in Quicken and we're on track for our lowest month since we got married: We're at $537 now and the previous low was $553.

Since we got married, we've averaged $745 on Food (groceries and restaurants).  This does not include household items or toiletries or diapers or dog food.  It does not include food while on vacation (that goes under travel). It does  not include food for parties (entertainment).

    No wonder I'm chubby.
