So MIL is a miserable, negative old woman whose own children are somewhat indifferent to her.
watching her with my LO, I think I'm startingt o understand why.
She never has a positive thing to say ever, but she tries to teach her "lessons"
She was holding LO a few weeks back , who was holding a toy. LO dropped her toy. (In that it flailed out of her hand, she hasn't learnt the fun of, "Let's see what happens when I drop this" yet, and even if she did know that game, I don't think it excuses what follows)
So she dropped the toy, DH picks it up for her. MIL starts in on how DH is being her servant and will her still be her servant when she's 15, then asks me what I think about him being a servant.
I said, "I think the point of being a parent is meeting your child's needs."
LO dropped the toy again.
MIL ignored the toy and propped her up to watch the TV, so I picked up the toy and somewhat passive aggressively said to LO, "Will Granny not pick your toy up for you?"
because seriously lady? You won't pick up the toy for a 7mth old??
Even if you could "teach" the 7mth old the lesson of, 'well that will teach you for dropping it" why as your Grandmother would you want to? What happened to Gradmother's spoiling babies?
Ughhh. This woman drives me crazy.

Your MIL reminds me of my own- though mine isn't quite as bad, but bad enough. I don't think I'd be able to control my temper around your MIL for an extended period of time.
Note, I do that...NOW, when DD is testing her limits. I give her three chances, then don't give the toy back. NEVER at that age.
And still, my mother spoils her rotten. If she drops a toy, there's never a time that my mother doesn't pick it up for her. No matter what, my mother showers her with love and leaves the "teaching" up to me.
I would definitely limit LO's time with your mIL.
That's exactly what I though! Instead of trying to play with her she propped her up in front of the television? No thank you.

Ugh I know! If she'd ignored the toy and instead started playing a game with LO I wouldn't have thought anything of it.
The funniest thing was LO looking at me like, "Umm what? what do I do now? I'm just sitting here next to this person who is ignoring me. This is strange"
