Pregnant after IF

PIO shot advice??

Dh is out of town until Friday so I have to do my own shot tonight-Thurs. and I'm not looking forward to it at all!! Dh drew smiley faces on my tush where they need to go (yep...he's a dork), I've watched the youtube videos...any advice though? The shots have been hurting more and more, and that's with me not watching I can't imagine this is going to be pleasant at all!

Re: PIO shot advice??

  • I'll send my husband to help you. He's a pro... Not.

In all seriousness, go to a room with a mirror you can get nice and close to. Lean on a piece of furniture or just take the weight off the leg on the side you're giving it so that the muscle isn't flexed. Give the shot and wait ten seconds before removing it and then rub the spot. I always have a tissue ready in case a spot of blood or oil come out. Good luck! You totally can do it!

  • I did every single shot myself.  Personally I think I would've stressed more with DH doing it. With myself I knew when to anticipate the actual injection.  My tips: look into the mirror.  Shift weight to opposite leg of injection site.  Pinch skin, inject syringe, release skin, pull out syringe, and apply pressure immediately with alcohol swab for about a minute.  And most importantly, relax!  It's not as bad as I thought it was going to be.
2nd ectopic resulted in loss of tube. HSG revealed remaining tube is "severely torqued".

Haha roselin...I read your post right after I posted and thought how funny. Your dh doesn't do shots and is freaking out and I'm freaking out cause I don't have dh here to do it :) Thanks for the advice!

  • I have never done them myself. I just wanted to say Good Luck. I hope it's not too bad.

  • Try not to aim too perpendicular to your butt.  I find it hard to depress the plunger when I'm doing it myself so am for the outside region of the area.

Dont pinch for PIO.... stretch your skin tight instead. You only want to pinch with subq because they are supposed to be in fat. If you pinch and IM you may not make it to muscle and the shot is wasted because it wont absorb there.

Thanks LMC...I wondered about that, because DH has always pulled the skin tight and I was panicking he had been doing it wrong! I was going to pull out the picture step by step directions to double check it :)

  • No advice, just wanted to wish you luck!

  • The only way I could get myself twisted around easily was crammed in the corner of the kitchen counter. Take your weight off the side you are doing the shot on but be sure not to lift that leg. You can also lay on the couch and twist around. Just have your band aid unpackaged and ready before you do it. It's not to bad, I had to do it myself often.

You're right.  I pinched for Lupron, not PIO.  Sorry, and thanks for the catch!
