Group B Strep Testing Question

in 3rd Trimester
The receptionist at the MW office informed  me that they would be swabbing for this at my next appointment.  Is it like the H1N1 test, a nasal swab, or is it more like the strep cultures that they take of your throat? What happens in case of a positive? Thanks in advance, I just like to know ahead of time.

    hehe they don't swab your throat, my dear.

    It's a vaginal and sometimes anus swab. It's not that bad though.

    They swab your butt.

    for real.

    if you are + they give you antibiotics during labor.

    Yeah, mine was most certainly not in the throat, but in my vagina and rectum at the same time. Two swabs, two holes, same time. In and out, real quick-like. Painless, easy, viola!

    Good thing you asked beforehand or you'd be pretty surprised at that appointment, lol :)

    It's a vaginal and anal swab.  It was really no big deal.

    Like everyone else has said, they swab your vagina nd  your rectum, they don't really stick the swab in your butt so don't worry, it's really quick. If you have it you get an IV of antibiotics when you go into labor.

    What everyone else said!! I tested positive for it with DS and I must've told the nurses a thousand times that I needed to be on antibiotics. They must've thought I was the biggest pain in the a$s.

    Just had this today. 

    They swabbed something down there... I assumed it was my vajayjay. Now I'm wondering if it was my butt. Hm....

    Wow. I am highly glad I asked ahead of time. I was worried because the nose and throat swabs are so uncomfortable to me LOL. Well, I am glad I know, and I'm not too worried, hearing that its not as bad as it sounds. Thank you!

    Make sure you get this test- it is pretty serious and can prevent some major issues after birth!  I have read some horror stories lately that made me put this on my list of something I could not miss at my 36 week appt!
