Re: Do any of you have these carriers?

  • I don't have any of the ones you listed but I don't really trust Infantino carriers (they are the makers of the slings that were recalled) and while Snugli is a pretty well known and established company (the old school snugli is what my aunt used for a while in the 80s) I am not a person who particularly likes that kind of carrier.  I don't find buckle carriers fit me well and they tend to rub me the wrong way - literally and figuratively.   I also think that just looking at them they don't seem that they'd last for a long time, i.e., the older and heavier your LO gets the less likely it is that your LO will be comfy in that type of carrier  - although they are inexpensive.

Is there a reason you want to get one from BRU?  Or a price point that you're set at?  I think there are definitely better carriers out there, even buckle carriers like that, but it would depend on what you're looking for.

  • If you really want a buckle carrier from BRU my advice is to get an Ergo. I know it's more expensive but it is for a reason. The best thing is that it holds it's resale value so if you wear it twice and decide you don't like it you can sell it on CL or Ebay for nearly what you paid for it. With a $30 Snugli/Infantino you'd be lucky to get $5 for them. If you do like it, the Ergo is more likely to hold up through multiple children, making it more economical in the long run.

  • The snugli is a crotch dangler, and your LO may like it, but it kills my back!  I have one that we bought used for $5, or my mom bought it, and we have used it 2 x it doesn't feel secure either.

Tell us what you are looking for and we can help you find it!

  • I do not have any of these carriers.  I do have one of the Infantino Mei Tai carriers that I do like - I know a lot of people don't like Infantino because of the recalled slings, but I find the one I have to be very safe.  We have a Jeep carrier very similar to the snugli carrier you linked to - one of our friends gave it to us since they never really used it with their child.  We recently got an Ergo, but DS loved being carried in that cheap carrier, and it was nice to have that reassurance that he liked being worn before we shelled out for the Ergo.  If you are just looking to try out babywearing before spending a lot of money, I would recommend checking out craigslist or consignment sales for carriers.  It is consignment sale season around here, and I went to one this past weekend that must have had 15 or 20 snugli and baby bjorn carriers for sale at very reasonable prices.

I will echo the PP and say that we LOVE our ergo (so much so that I recently bought another one on Craigslist for my mom to use when she watches DS and my niece).  It would have been really hard for me to spend that much money on a carrier before knowing whether we liked babywearing or not though.

  • I want to try baby wearing and don't know where to start? My hubby doesn't think is a good idea. But whatever! I'm the one who's stays at home with her. I also want to start going on walks with her.

    I would appreciate your input.

  • Different moms like different carriers.  With DD I didn't "know" better and got a bjorn- which although I now know better was a gateway to baby-wearing for me.  When I put her in the bjorn and she fell asleep and suddenly I could do stuff, I was hooked.

I then bought 2 WAHM mei tais, and for Valentine's Day before DS was born DH got me a GC to ergo.com so I got an ergo after he was born.  I loaned one of my mei tais to a friend and I go between the mei tai and the ergo- but, keep in mind this is what I like.  Some moms love slings (I like even weight distribution over both shoulders) and some moms love wraps, etc.

There are some attachment parenting groups that have carrier "libraries" so you could try on different ones.  Or if you found a mom in your area who was a big baby-wearer maybe she would let you try some on.  I know I loaned my friend a mei tai for that purpose.

  • What are your thoughts on this one? It had great reviews on Amazon as well.

  • I have that Infantino wrap and tie...I got it super cheap on woot.  I find it to be fairly comfortable, but we pretty much never use it now that DS is big enough for the Ergo without the infant insert - we both prefer that now.  One problem that I had with it (and with moby-style wraps) is that I am pretty short, and the ties always drag on the ground...I just never got good at keeping them clean. =)
