2nd Trimester

no appetite

I am 16 weeks and I have no appetite and its been like this from day one. I can never think of anything I want to eat and usually end up eating junk food. Of course I am worried about my eating habits and how it will affect the baby.  Is anyone else going through this?

Re: no appetite

  • I have had this happen on and off throughout my pregnancy. I am usually hungry, but nothing really sounds appetizing...except for cookies or something unhealthy.  It has gotten somewhat better over time, but I still have my days. I will sit and cry because I can't figure out what I want.My husband will go through the pantry, fridge and freezer and name everything we have. He is so good, he does it every time I have one of these episodes

  • Yeah, I've been like this for about 10 weeks. Back when my m/s was bad, it was literally torture to force myself to eat. Now that it's a bit better, I'm just kind of indifferent to food. Still don't want or crave anything, but at least I don't have to force food down my throat.

Thankfully, I've found that spicy foods and vinegar are things I enjoy. So I'm eating lots of veggies with oil & vinegar and plain pasta with fra diavlo sauce. I don't know if this method will work for you at all, but if you find something that makes you think "yum" rather than "gross", roll with it! Feel better.

  • I am. Its horrible. I dont ever want to eat.  I just sort of force my self to eat things.
  • Nothing ever sounds good, except for toast. I am still elbow deep in morning sickness, so I am hoping my appetite comes back soon.

Luckily, all the junk food sounds equally as nauseating.

  • Im on the same boat. If I do have a craving, it's tangerines. But still, mostly I just feel indifferent about food. My doc suggested I drink an instant breakfast drink in the morning, packed with protein (since I don't have much of that) and vitamins. I have had an issue gaining weight so the drink helps with that too if you have it alongside breakfast. Some day we will get those appetites back!!!

  • Yes I have this problem as well. It is weird because everyone expects you to have a huge appetite and a "eat all you want" card because you are pregnant but I don't want anything! And I REALLY can't eat junk food, fast food and meat. Just the smell makes me actually vomit.

I am almost 20 weeks and now weigh 16 pounds less than I did when I got pregnant and I was already pretty small. I worry about it constantly but I have severe sickness ( throwing up 20 + times a day) so there isn't much I can do.

I think some of us just get unlucky with this symptom. I feel so awful when one of my friends says they have NO symptoms at all. wrech.

  • I have no appetite too.  Most of the time i am trying to convince myself that there is something in particular that sounds good or yummy and it gets frustrating aorund lunchtime because i can't think of anything good!  For this reaosn i have not gained a pound in the last 4 months... but my doctor isn't concerned.  Since i started out a few pounds overweight she told me to not worry.  As long as the baby is growing and healthy...

SO i eat mostly fruit, cereal (like pops or frosted flakes), the occasional del taco regular taco, and recently, baked potatoes with a little salt.  Even now, it's 4:30 PM and i have absolutely NO desire for dinner.  Although i will probably have a yogurt later on just to eat something with my fiancee when he gets home.

Despite what the doctor says, i still worry about not eating enough.  I mean, 800 calories a day?  That's all i can muster.
