(NTTGP) why do animals...

dogs especially like to go find something HORRIBLE smelling and go roll around in it?!

With the weather here just so perfect, I've been leaving our back doors that lead to the fenced in yard open for a nice breeze and so our 2 dogs can go romp and play outside all they want, running back and forth. 

My baby girl Ruby just came into my home office and she smells like a decaying something or another! and she had a bath just yesterday! I gagged and ran her right to the bathroom and washed her all over again. 

Yuck. Anyone else ever have this problem or is it just my dog?!

    I do!! Every time I let the dog out he comes back in smelling horrible!!! I got a dog spray and wipes to clean him off before he runs through the house!

    OMG I nearly threw up. I just walked into my living room and found the culprit for the horrible smell.

     

     

     

    a dead frog. like petrified dead. 

     

    His stupid Min-Pin, Shawty, was chewing on it too. Looks like bath time and doggy mints for the girls.

    I use Crazy Dog brand of sprays and this didn't even help. ::gag::

    They probably wonder the same thing about us and perfume, lol!

    But yeah, gotta watch my girl like a hawk at the beach in case there is something dead washed up.  My old boy was the same way.  Yuck.

    I wonder why they do that???  I go out with our pug (because there are coyotes around here all the time and big cats!) so I keep her from rolling in stuff...but for some reason if she finds a small dead something or even a snake skin or bug she goes to rub her face on it and then roll on it!!!!!  Its so weird-

    My dogs favorite thing to roll in is rabbit poop.   If he isn't rolling in it he is eating it...Ick!  I can never get his breath to smell good.

    Whipping out my "Why is my dog doing THAT?" book that my dad got for me after we got our doggie...

    Entitled, "I'll smell so good!"

    Many dogs like to roll in mucky substances, such as decaying bodies and feces. This dog has found part of a decaying mouse on the grass and blissfully rubs it around his neck as it fputting on expensive perfume (picture of dog doing exacty that). Scavenging was once an important source of food and it could be that they just enjoy the aroma in the same way that we like the smell of flowers. 

    So...I guess they just do it for fun.

    My dog eats rabbit poop too. And deer poo, and groundhog poop. When he was a baby he ate another dog's poop. He's since stopped eating the gigantic chunks of poop left by the latter two, but still will eat rabbit & deer poop like they're skittles.

    oh great, next time I pick up my huge box of skittles to snack I'm gonna imagine little poop balls. Huh?

    My Daisy does that all the time, it's horrible. I noticed she especially does it within a day or two after she comes back from the groomer and smelling especially good. Last week I let them out right before bed and didn't realize she rolled in something gross until she was laying IN MY BED! It was so nasty! DH bagged up all the sheets and the comforter to drop off at the dry cleaners while I gave her a bath (which she hates). Her usual choice is deer poop or turkey poop. Very gross!
