Anyone NOT doing kick counts?

My OB has never mentioned doing kick counts at my appointments, so I don't do them.  He told me to call him if I didn't feel LO move in 3 days, but that seems like a really long time to me!  I feel movement all the time, so I'm not worried, but I'm wondering if I'm the only one who hasn't been told to count kicks??
I used to be a big deal.  Now I'm just old.

Re: Anyone NOT doing kick counts?

  • I'm not doing em!!  doctor hasn't said anything about them yet and I'm hoping she never does.  honest to God I'd never even heard of official kick counting until I read about it on here...

  • Me! No one has ever mentioned it to me, but LO is moving around all the time, so I don't worry about it.

  • Nope, I'm not doing them either and dr hasn't mentioned anything to be about them.  And I forgot to ask about them today.  Oh well.  For how active Kamikaze is, I think I'll definitely be noticing any decline in movement.

  • I'm not either.  My OB hasn't mentioned them at all but that may be because I've told him LO is moving all of the time.

  • My doctor hasn't brought it up but I stumbled upon an app for my iphone around my 23rd week and have been doing them on ocassion, mostly when I haven't felt him move for a while (which is rare). I have stress tests done so often at the doctor's office that I figure its why dear old doctor hasn't mentioned doing them at home.

I'm no expert, but I assume that if baby is pretty active throughout the day/night than counting kicks would be pretty pointless but if you go for a while without feeling LO move around, it might be a good idea to take a few minutes to count.

  • Mine has me doing them daily! Grr its hard to remember some days. I say basically just be aware of your babies movements. If you dont feel any for a while (a few hours) do a count. I think what I have to do is overkill.

  • I'm not. But I check the same time every day to see if I feel normal movement.

  • My OB always asks if the baby is "active," but has never asked me to specifically count individual kicks. I can't imagine trying to keep up with a kick count on top of everything else I'm doing, but I'm sure I'd notice if his overall activity level dropped.

  • I'm not doing them per say but I do make a point to make sure the little guy is moving every day.

Yea, he always asks "How is baby?" and I say "Good, I guess, he moves all the time."  So I guess that is my equivalent of a kick count. lol

It's nice to know that I'm not the only one and that my OB isn't forgetting or something. ;)

  • Nope and my MW never said to to kick counts she did mention at my last appointment that I should feel the baby daily, aprox once + an hour.

  • I'm not, never even heard of it till I saw it on here.  I think that could make a person crazy trying to count and decide if their baby is ok based on kicks!!  Hope my Dr never mentions that, sheesh....

  • Nope... but my little dude is psycho and even kicked the Dr 3 times in the amt of time it took him to measure my belly at the last appt.. He laughed and said, "Is he like this all the time?" lol.

  • I don't do them. I even asked my doctor about it because some of my friends do them, she said as long as I feel consistent movement from LO not to worry about it, and to call if I don't feel him move for more than 2 days.

  • I'm not keeping track, OB never said anything about it but LO kicks allll the time so I'm not concerned.
  • I was told to do them, but don't because this LO is a hyperactive bundle. If I go 2 hours without feeling him, I'll call my doctor because that is SO far out of the norm for him.

  • im not and i didnt hear about kick counts til i read about them here.  but when i asked some women i know who have had babies already, they told me their docs had them doing kick counts.

anyway, i asked my dr about it and she said i dont have to count until the very end.  i just have to monitor for decreased movement... which is hard because some days lo is quiet anyway.

  • I'm not doing them. Then again, for the past few days my baby has been moving like CRAZY. To the point I'm wondering if there is such thing as too much movement. It's sort of creepy. Ah, happening right now!! Yeah, so I don't need to count kicks to see if it's happening enough.

  • My doc told me 2 weeks ago (starting week 28) taht I'm to do them daily and wait for 10 kicks in 2 hours.  I do not do them daily...only on slow days do I actually do the 10 count..otherwise if he's been active most of the day then I don't actually count.  And today at my 30 week appt she asked me how my kick counts were going and all these questions about it...oh wellz...atleast i know he's moving about even if I don't know how long on average it takes for him to do the 10.
  • I don't think I was officially told to do them with DS. He moved all.the.time... and so does this one! So I wouldn't do them officially anyways!

  • My OB has asked if I've felt the baby kick but has never suggested kick counts.
Proud Momma to two beautiful children!!!

  • I'm not doing them either. I feel the baby move a lot and my midwife told me that movements slow down towards the end, so not to worry. So, no I'm not doing any counts.
  • Not been told to do kick counts... I just watch and make sure he has kicked some of the day, some days he can be quiet and then right before bed start up kicking.
  • I am not because my Doc hasn't told me to... but I do have a 32 week appt. next Friday. I might bring it up to him, then. I feel him all the time, though, so I am not worried.

  • Doesn't the kick counting usually begin at or around 28 weeks? If so, I'm 28 weeks today, saw my doc yesterday, and he didn't mention anything.

So in 2 weeks, I go back. Maybe then he will say something? hmmmm

  • I'm not doing them.  I heard of them here, asked my OB about it, and he acted all shocked, said it's far too early for me to be doing them, and that usually there's a specific reason they suggest a woman start counting but didn't go into it.

  • My doc didn't mention them, but I asked and was told not to worry about it.  If I didn't feel movement at all, then I should be concerned.
