Pregnant after IF

Will you tell LO/LO's re details of IF?

This topic came up in our house and I don't think we will.  We will certainly tell her that conceiving was difficult and she was loved and wanted long before we ever got that + on the HPT, but the details about the method and $$ cost may get left out.  I will certainly make sure she is tested for my clotting disorder, but since we're MFI, I think that's about as far as we'll go.

Just my thoughts.  What do you think you'll do?

  • We plan on telling ours, but since my ILs don't know...this should be interesting...

  • We definitely will only because we will have to explain to them about our use of DS. I'm not sure at what age we will do it, but we have agreed that we owe them that honesty. DH actually wants to hand them a bill for all the IF bills they caused, but I'm voting against that. :)

  • I think we will. I'd rather be upfront and honest with them about it. I would hate for them to get hit with it later in life.

  • :::visiting from IF:::

    Yes we will.  We have the DS part to discuss with them and then we want them to know about how they were conceived.  Also our child will have all the preconception b/w not invasive testing done somewhere between 16-18 yrs old.  I don't want my child(ren) going through life thinking everything is hunky dory and then have IF dropped on them like we did.  If they have any IF issues I want them to know at a young age so they can plan for it.

  • We definitely will. I also plan on wheeling out my large and falling apart accordion folder with all my IF records in it when they start acting up! Just kidding...but yes we will tell them both. Not sure at what time in their lives we will approach it though. Maybe mid teens?

  • Being a child of an IF couple, and having IF myself, we'll definitely tell our kids.  My mother told me about her struggles, starting when I was young and telling me stories like "we tried and tried and tried and finally we had you", and progressing with more details when I got older.

    I think our kids should know how much we wanted them, and what we went through to have them.

  • Yes, we will for sure.  I don't think I would be able to keep it from them.  I will always tell them I loved them so much when they were still just a twinkle in our eyes and that we both went through a lot to have them.  I also might joke around when they are getting ready for college that they will have to pay for it themselves because we spent that money on bringing them into the world.

    I want to be careful the way I do talk about it though.  I don't want them to think just because we had a hard time they will as well.  Or they might not be as careful with protection if they are messing around in there teens and I will have a pg teen on my hands.  And boy will that make me mad lol.

  • Yes, we will tell them, although not sure when. I have a strong feeling that my high FSH at a young age is genetic and I would certainly want any daughters we have to be aware of this.

  • Absolutely 100% yes.  I'm really proud of what I did.  And I think she'll be proud of me too.  She'll also have pictures of herself as an embryo which is so cool.

  • Yes, we plan on telling our LO's. We've kept a journal through the entire process talking about what we we going through and our feelings. Not only was it very therapeutic, but I think it will be neat for our children to read about what we went through and how badly we wanted them in our lives. Of course, they won't be reading this until they are old enough to understand :D

  • We will tell our LO for sure when they're old enough to understand. If we have a girl I will also make sure that she is checked in her teens to rule out having PCOS as well. I wouldn't want a daughter of mine to have to be told for years that nothing was wrong, when there really is something going on.

  • Yes, I'm pretty sure we will.  We're having a boy, but if we were having a girl, I would definitely make sure she was charting and get her tested for PCOS if she was showing signs.

  • if we do, it will be when she is much older...perhaps when she herself is trying to conceive.  i don't think she needs to know the logistics of how she was born.
