1st Trimester

Anyone else think it's weird?

I find it weird that I ovulated 14 days ago, but yet I'm considered 4 weeks already (by my doctor and my ticker).  I talked to the nurse today when she called about my blood work (which was good btw, yay!), and she said that technically you are already considered 2 weeks when you ovulate.  Does anyone else find this to be a strange calculation?

  • It can be pretty confusing at first, but it seems to be the norm when dating a pregnancy, especially before you have an u/s that can actually measure the baby's development and give you something more accurate.

  • I think they do that because a woman can ovulate any day in her cycle and a lot of people still don't know when they ovulate.  A due date is a best guess it's not an exact science.  They also say you're pregnant for 9 months but its really more like 10 months.
  • and eveything is getting read to be preggers. Its pretty normal to me, and i like it better soon the LO will be passed the scary stage
  • Yep. I totally get it, but my DH swears my timing is off. I showed him the due date calculator based on my LMP and he tells me no because we know I ovulated on day 14. Whatever! Since it's been calculated like this forever and a day I am using the experts and not my DH calculations! :)

  • I tried to explain this to DH but he didn't get it. I said I'm 7 weeks over the weekend and he said, "but you just found out you were pregnant 3 weeks ago!" I tried to explain how they calculate it but I don't think he was interested in understanding the details. He's just like "okay, you know more about this stuff."

But, I do like that you get a bonus couple of weeks. For instance, everyone wants to make it through the first tri but it's so nice to already be at week 4 when you find out your pregnant.

  • as soon as your egg is relased from you overy its started its life cycle, even before its fertilized.

technically you were 2 weeks preg every month before you got your period.... another way to say it.... not pregnant but you had a EGG that was released and mature for 2 weeks before your AF came.

doe this make more sense? the babies life starts with the mature EGG .... and a mature egg gets fertilized around week 2.... but the egg doesnt lose 2 weeks of life .....
