Pregnant after a Loss

Let's talk cheese dip (warning: STUPID question inside)

Okay, so I know you're supposed to NOT eat authentic cheese dip during pregnancy.  I'm wondering about the stuff in the jar.  Like the Tostitos stuff or Cheese Whiz.  We're doing tacos tonight and I usually do em chalupa style with a soft shell with a lil cheese spread on it then wrapped around the hard shell.  Wondering if that's a no-no.

  • I've never heard anything about not eating cheese dip, authentic or not. The only thing with cheese is that it should be pasteurized. You will be hard pressed to find non-pasteurized cheese in the United States, unless you seek it out from an artisan cheese-maker or specialty store.

  • Hmm....interesting.  Maybe it's one of those things that five years ago (when I was pg with dd #1) they warned against, but have since found it to be nothing???  Don't I feel sheepish image

  • I haven't heard this either.  Either of those types of cheeses shold be made with pasteurized milk, so I wouldn't worry.
  • ::drool:: cheese dip! YUMMY!

  • It's fine. Anything from a major company sold in a general chain store is going to be pasturized.

    It's not like that stuff is real cheese, anyway. I say that with love in my heart, I adore the stuff.

  • I've heard this, but they're not talking about the kind of cheese dip you're talking about. Some authentic Mexican cheese dip is made with unpasteurized cheese, which is what they want you to avoid.

    Enjoy taco night! :-)

  • The fear with cheese dip is that it might be unpasturized. But Tostitoes or cheese whiz, or like style cheese dips are going to be pasturized and processed to heck and back. So you're safe as far as that is concerned.

  • What I want to know is how on earth you're having taco night, with or without cheese dip, and I'm going to be starting at dry toast again for dinner tonight because I can't even look at meat right now - I'm so jealous - I love taco night!!!!  Enjoy!!!!
