Babies: 0 - 3 Months

breaking the swaddle...

My LO has been sleeping at night and sometimes even in the day with a swaddle (when he has difficulty settling down...particularly his arms). In the next month, I'd like to fade out the swaddle during the daytime especially, as he'll be entering daycare soon (at 3 months of age). I haven't met with the people there, but my guess is that they will not swaddle and that he'll also have to adjust to a crib for naps. Any pointers? His little hands constantly mess with his face during more restless sleep periods, and sometimes it is challenging to put him down for a nap in the absence of a swaddle. When we have had luck without a swaddle, it has only been when he sleeps on an incline in his rock-n-play.

Re: breaking the swaddle...

  • Have you asked them about swaddling? I use the SwaddleMes and I brought two to leave at daycare. They do it because I tell them to. Plus, if they don't do it and she doesn't sleep well (or sleep at all), wouldn't that make their day that more difficult? I can't see why they would decline to do it.

What I have heard here though is swaddling with one arm out, then both arms out, and then completely out of the swaddle.

Yep, that's what I've heard too.  I've yet to try it though.
