SN Preschool update

So I psoted and ran a couple weeks ago, freaking out that I was informed at the last minute that I was expected to attend one day a week of preschool with DS.  Thanks for all the responses, and sorry I never updated.

We are 2 weeks into the school year now (we start late here) and it is going really well.  I am enjoying going to school with DS one day a week, and DD has been fine in sibling care (which I am shocked but very happy about).  Sib care costs 20$ a month for 10 hours of care so it is a good deal.

So I go with DS on Mondays and leave DD in sib care.  On Wednesdays, he goes by himself (rides the bus).  Going once a week is nice because I have the chance to talk to his teacher about his progress and see him in action.  We also have parent education on Mondays for an hour, kid free woohoo!

I am happy with the situation overall, although I do think DS would benefit from going 3 days a week- it is a little hard for him to transition to preschool days since he only goes twice a week.  They add a 3rd day for some of the SN kids in January so hopefully he will qualify for that.

There are 3 SN kids in the class, and 10 "regular" kids.  There are 2 teachers and 2 aids.  And, amazingly, 1 of the other SN kids has NF so I am excited to know another NF kiddo.

Re: SN Preschool update

  • Glad to hear it is working out! Sounds like your district has a great program. I love the parent education portion of it.  What about parents that work full-time?  Do they still attend?

Only 3 SN kids and two have NF?! How about that!

  • That is awesome! I too am curious about those parents that work?
  • So glad it's working out for you (If I recall, the logistics were the sticking point, not the parent education portion itself, no?) Right now, I'm desperately wishing I had a program like this in place with my school system... like Auntie said, the bridge between EI and the school system has been pretty non-existent for me, and I'm really struggling with the sudden lack of detailed information on DD's progress... hoping it gets better with time!
