My doctor scheduled an induction if I go over my due date (just as a safeguard, since apparantly its hard to get on the books) and of course I would love to go naturally, but I just wanted to be prepared mentally IF this would happen.
How was your experience?

Re: Please share your induction experience!
lol, lots of people wondering about inductions today!
Mine was okay. I had been dilated 3cm when I got scheduled, so my doctor was pretty confident that my body was ready for induction.
Went in at 5:30am, got hooked up to IV, fetal monitor, pressure cuff, etc etc. The pitocin level was so low at the beginning, I didn't have any contractions of any sort. Doc came in around 8:30, broke my water, Still nothing. I think I didn't have any contractions till close to noon, at which point, my back labor was pretty bad. I was pretty much stuck to the bed, I couldn't move, change positions, etc, which sucked. Got an epidural around 2 ish, I think... I can't remember. I was gonna get it anyway so I just decided to get it early. (why sit through the pain if I'm going to get it anyway?) I rested/napped till around dinner time, at which point I was dilated pretty good, but the baby was sitting funny, so they laid me down on one side hoping she'd turn. We were that way for about an hour to 1 1/2 hours. She did turn, and I started pushing. I honestly can't even remember how long I pushed for, but I had DD around 8pm.
It was okay overall. I do think that if I didn't get induced, I would have gone into C-section, as I could barely push DD out. If she grew even a couple days more, I don't think I could have pushed her out naturally. As it was, the doctor used vacuum and she said it was one of the harder deliveries she had all year.
And then I had major complications - we don't know if it was because of being induced, (my doctor doesn't think so) but my placenta didn't deliver on its own, and I had pp hemorrhage. Had to go in for D&C, which ended up being over 2 hours long, and they even considered hysterectomy to get my bleeding to stop. Thankfully, it stopped, but I got 2 units of blood and it scared my hubby to death...
Hi There! I'm usually a lurker (just because I've got BAD baby fever and want another one....) but thought that I would share my successful induction story.
Was due on 04DEC2008, and nothing was happening so set an induction date for Dec 11. Morning of, went in at 7 am, started the IV, then slow pitocin drip then Dr. came in and broke my water around 830. Told me that because my BP was elevated, that I should think about getting an epidural sooner rather than later was probably a good idea.
Things started to pick up, and started to get sick around 1030 am, so soon after requested the epidural. AWESOME!!! After that, they continuosly monitored me, and had me lay on my sides (still not sure why) rotating every so often. I progressed to 6 cm, and kinda stalled there for a while. They said that they would give me about an hour, that was at about 4 pm and if I hadnt progressed further, they were going to need to do an internal monitor to measure the strength of my contrax. Didnt need to monitor much longer, the next time they checked I was fully dialated and ready to push!
I started to push, but couldnt really feel where/how to push until they turned down the epi. And after about 30 minutes of pushing, my baby was born! Also, for me had some bleeding issues afterwards. I only needed 1 stitch, which was amazing because my daughter had a 14 1/4 inch head!!
I delivered the afterbirth just fine, but apparently my uti was just too tired, and they couldnt get it to clamp/contract back down to stop the bleeding. After getting another IV of Pitocin, Dr. basically sitting on top of my stomache to 'clamp' my uterus back down, the bleeding stopped. I didnt need any transfusions or other interventions, and the Dr. didnt seem too concerned about it. But I tell you what, that hurt worse than actually having my daughter!!
All in all, I had a great experience, and wouldnt be opposed to being induced again! Good Luck and hope everything works out for you no matter what your birth story!
Just lurking and hope you go naturally! You said you wanted to be mentally prepared, so I just wanted to share. (I hope this does NOT happen to you) --
Mine was awful. I went in on a Monday afternoon, did 2 rounds of cytotec, a foley bulb catheter, another round of cytotec, tons of pitocin, and after 60 hours I was still only 5 centimeters dilated. I ended up in a c-section that Thursday. My c-section was when I was 41 weeks and 6 days pregnant.
But, they can work -- I just had a very unfavorable cervix, even at 41 and a half weeks when the induction started.
