I am trying to decide what to get for LO for outerwear for this winter to keep her warm when I wear her on dog walks. I am just lost when it comes to looking at all these buntings/snow suits online. Will fleece suffice or do you think we need down for 30 degree-ish Maryland winter days? Or should I get a special babywearing coat?
Second question. I am trying to decide between a wrap and an Ergo but can only afford to buy one. Lately, my LO really likes the Moby and she has also always liked the sling. We also have a mei tai but I feel like she is so loose in there. I want something comfortable for wearing for at least a couple of hours and that will continue to work as she gets older. If she can nap in it and I can do housework that's perfect! I am leaning toward a wrap because I can toss it in my bag more easily than a carrier. What brand/size would you recommend? I have looked at Ncbelle's page and the Babywearer, but I feel overwhelmed by all of the options. I want something shorter than the Moby that I can also wear in the Maryland heat. I am 5'7, about 140, and rather small chested if that helps. Thanks so much! I know these "what wrap should I get" posts probably get annoying, so I really appreciate the feedback!
Re: Need advice on wrap/carrier & outerwear for winter BW
kwinters is great help for finding a wrap. She helped me find mine
I'd recommend a wrap if you want a holder for naptime. DD is much more snuggly in ours, and I'm attempting to put her to sleep now and start on some HW. I have a beco as well, but I don't feel as comfy cozy in it.
If you look on the fsot on the baby wearer and diaper swappers you might be able to afford an old ergo and a used wrap. Both fold up well, but my wrap uses the least space. I think we've got success on that nap here, she just laid her head down. I strongly recommend an exercise ball as your desk chair.
Hi! I'd be happy to help you find some wrap options! I'll need to know what your favorite colors are, size of LO, and budget of course. And feel free to pm me with this if you're not comfortable sharing your budget publicly.
After that I'll shop FSOT and link you 4 or 5 options that I think would work for you!
I can't help you much with winter wear (although they do sell them on FSOT but they get snapped up pretty quickly) I live in an area where our cold is maybe 40. Gotta love Texas! But we'll be using a poncho this winter.
There is a babywearing group that meets in Baltimore on the second Saturday of the month. I have not gone yet.

They also meet at soft and cozy baby in Hampden
Wow! You are awesome! I think I prefer blues, purples, greens, and neutral colors. Definitely not black as I have a yellow dog. My budget is less than $100-ish (basically the cost of an Ergo would be top of the line for me), but I'd love to spend closer to $60 or so.
Thanks again! Can't wait to see what you find shopping!
Cool! Thanks! I've actually been wanting to check out soft and cozy for some new CD!
Well, I'd vote wrap of course ;-) A BB Slen might be a good option for you - even new they are under $100 and are pretty good in the heat. Size depends on the carry you want to do - you might could use a 5 although you'd probably find a 6 more comfortable for learning double hammock if you want to do that at all. You could do a 4 if you want to ruck or back wrap cross carry (although you can use longer wraps for those as well).
As for the coat - I used my babywearing coat daily last winter in NC - if you are going to be walking the dogs daily, I think it's worth it. Most can also double as a regular coat and maternity coat and work for front and back carries so they are a pretty good investment. They'll start popping up used on FSOT soon - the Kindercoat is the most common/easy to find.

Alright, I found two greens and one purple (which was originally found by Gypsy) I listed them from by price from lowest to highest.
Added note: These are all 4.6meter wraps which is what I use for my DH's and FWCC and I'm a similar size as you.

https://www.thebabywearer.com/forum/showthread.php?415466-Wraps-wraps-wraps-for-sale.Awesome! Thanks! So I just read on your site that the double hammock is the most supportive back carry, but that a 6 is 4.7 meters long. So I'd still have the problem that I have with the Moby of it dragging and being a lot of fabric for other carries. I could deal with this if it's worth it, but are there pretty supportive back carries that I could do with a shorter wrap if I wanted to wear my LO for up to a couple hours at a time -- this is probably our max as my LO gets antsy after an hour or so of being worn especially if she is awake? If it's well worth it for the back support, then I'd be up for a longer wrap.
I'll start checking for the used coats soon. I was having trouble wrapping my head around how I would wear LO in the winter otherwise!

Thanks! What fun ! I love the colors in the second one especially. And I notice that she says she's also selling a babywearing coat. I will have to think on this one (plus I can't buy til the 1st when DH gets paid). Do you own a Girasol? That's a brand I haven't seen thrown around on this board so much. Is it soft? Will it hold up well as my LO gets bigger?
I have one Gira and definitely want a few more! I have fresh grapes, its gorgeous! I love it because it has a very blanket snuggly feel and very supportive and should be fine even for a toddler but I haven't tried with a big kid.
If I had to rank my fav brands in order it would probably go Vatanai, Gira, Lana, Ellaroo (for my top 4). Princessjenny is also a huge fan of Giras!
Also, the big thing with wraps is that you can generally sell them for close to what you paid, as long as no damage has occurred, so the expense isn't quite as huge as it seems.
With my LO at only about 14.5 lbs could I do some supportive back carries with a shortie for now and then buy a long one when she is bigger? What size shortie would you recommend? Thanks so much!
That's a great point.
My DD is just a bit bigger than your LO, i have a size 6, I think, and I like the DH for the ability to head tuck my LO. We did a rucksack for an earlier nap, and she didn't sleep as long, probably b/c I couldn't figure out the head tucking.
The rucksack carry was plenty supportive for me, but I like the Tibetan tie off and it needs a longer wrap, I barely have enough for it. See if you want to do the Tibetan tie off or not, if you don't a shorty would do, I think, I don't have a shorty though, just a vat 4.6, which I absolutely love after only 5 days with it.
Yup, you have a size 6
I've been thinking of getting a shorty (although my next wrap is another 6) and if you would like to try out the different sizes before buying you can always buy 5 yds of osnaburg, cut it to 30" wide, then cut the length to the size you want and give it a test drive. (Osnaburg is very cheap and can be found at almost any fabric store)
Here are the sizes
8= 5.6meters, 7= 5.2meters, 6= 4.7meters, 5= 4.2meters, 4= 3.7meters, 3= 3.2 meters, 2= 2.7 meters, and I think a 1= 2.2meters.
