I'm just curious. I see people often talk about their insurance not covering any IF treatments and it seems odd to me because everyone I know seeing an RE (including myself) has insurance coverage for IUI/IVF/Meds/Acupuncture. Then I got to thinking maybe this is because I am in the metro NY area??
Is that the case?? If it is that is completely unfair. Our insurance system in the US is so so so biased and really needs reforming.
Re: Is IF insurance coverage a regional thing?
We have none. And I don't think many people around here do...but some companies offer it.
Sucks balls.

It isn't federally mandated, but some states have mandated coverage.

You are so smart. It all makes sense now since I live in NY.
But seriously, how ridiculous is it that a woman living in NY gets to have coverage because the law says so and someone living in another state doesn't. It makes me angry!

We're one of the state mandated but they still don't cover an awful lot. I think DH's employer, who we get our insurance from, covers a little bit more than they normally do, but not much.
And of course there are loop holes within those states. Companies can choose to not have that coverage.

My insurance in NH is not mandatory for IF but they did cover it at 100%. I am hoping my next job will also have it as the company is based in MA but I'll be working off site in NH.
When I was at my previous job & trying to find short term disability insurance, I came across this website, which was VERY revealing:
https://hrc.nwlc.org/
(Sorry, but I can't make things clicky on my Mac.)
It grades each state based on the women's access to healthcare. Basically, we all suck:

Just some worse than others. :P
California is mandated that insurance companies offer IF coverage to subscribers. However employers are not required to offer the coverage to the employees. Sort of a sh!tty loop hole IMO. Our insurance is through a school district and you'd think they'd be more liberal with their offerings to employees.
