My "parent of the year" neighbors

Remember them?

Apparently they were having a makeshift birthday party for their 11 year old at the park this weekend, and they kept the one year old (just turned one last week) in his carseat the entire time with the doors open in the car. He was awake just looking around.

To me this is wrong on so many levels. I just feel so sorry for the kid, they treat him like a burden.... Gah, just makes me nuts.

  • Dude, that's just not right. Can you contact someone? Say something? Man, that would be hard to sit by and watch that happen. Poor, poor kid. :(

  • That is so terrible.  I feel really bad for that baby.
  • Thats the thing... they don't abuse their children. They just aren't good to them. Saggy diapers, dirty clothes, clothes not appropriate for the season, and I swear the one year old spends HOURS in the exersaucer everyday, even still.

I have thought about it, but unfortunatly, in the eyes of the law, they are just poor parents, not abusive ones.

  • I'm already weepy and this isn't helping. Emotionally neglecting a child is so cruel.

  • I would have walked over to the poor kid and took him out of the seat myself. Let them call the cops. They'd have some explaining to do too.

Then again, I had some redneck pull a gun on me in Wilmington years ago when I threatened to call the cops on his a$$ because he didn't have his 1 year-old in a car seat. I might not be the best person to give advice in these situations.  Stick out tongue

  • Thank God it wasn't hot this weekend.  That poor little one.  Is he even walking?  I would imagine that he isn't if they don't get him out and work with him.

  • WTF?  I can't believe anyone thinks that is OK.  That's just plain stupid, not to mention all the other adjectives others have thrown out.  Poor child.  Tyler turned one last week too, and he would have had an absolute shitfit if we had done something like that.

I wonder if the county/social services would send someone out if you called.  I would worry about all the stuff going on inside the home that I can't see.

    This exactly.  That's so sad.

  • I have lost the ability to speak.
  • Ditto Kristen.  The emotional neglect really hits home for me and makes me so sad.

Aside from that though, I do think you should call and report that they left their child in a car by himself.  So what if it wasn't hot outside and and so what if they were nearby?  That still seems like it would (or should) be illegal to me.  I won't even take a parking spot too far from a cart corral b/c it makes me nervous to put my kids in the car and then walk a few feet away to put the cart back.  Anything can happen in a car.
