Dilated to 4 and contractions are inconsistent.. SO FRUSTRATED!

Yesterday I had my checkup appointment and my Dr. said that I am dilated to 4, almost 5 and 80% effaced, she said that I can head to the hospital as soon as my contractions are 5-10 minutes apart for an hour or if they get stronger. So far, my contractions are inconsistent. Most of the time they are 20-30 minutes apart but then they will go away for hours. They are mild and the pain is tolerable.

 I just want to get the labor going, I am getting tired of waiting (been having contractions like this for a week) I know I should feel lucky that I am able to be this far along and laboring at home but I just want to get it going so I can stop feeling so anxious (yes this is my first)

 Plus, it doesn't help that every family member I have and my MIL calls me every couple of hours to say "Is it time yet", what do they not understand about "we will call you when we get to the hospital"

 I am so CRANKY! lol Sorry for my little vent.

    I'm sorry--send your calls to voicemail (saying you are NOT in labor yet and will contact them when you are) and try to get some rest so that you're not completely run down when labor really does start.

    I know the wait and contractions are making this hard, but I'm sure your LO will be here shortly.

    Think positively - it's AWESOME that by the time you have to deal with the big guns of labor you'll already be halfway there!!

    I had 2 weeks of off and on labor like that with DD before I really got started, and looking back on it I am SO GRATEFUL that I didn't have overwhelming contractions and go to L&D only to be told that I was 1 cm or a fingertip or something. It was great to walk in the door in real labor and know that I didn't have far to go.  It's understandable to be anxious and ready, but you're going to be totally fine!  Having gotten this far along probably means that your active labor phase will be pretty short for a first baby, which is always a good thing.  :)

    Hang in there.  And turn off your phone.  ;)

    I know how you feel. I am not sure where I am at because I haven't been to my midwife in almost a week and then I was barely 1 cm, but all evening yesterday, through the night and this morning I have been having tons of BH's. Last night they were a consistent 4 mins. apart for 1 min. long for a a couple of hours, but they weren't painful and weren't increasing in intensity... what is this?! At the least, I feel my body is getting ready. Just keep reassuring yourself that it will be soon... you sound really close. Do whatever you can to distract yourself and relax. Best wishes!! Your LO will be here soon :)

    I was 4cm-5cm at my final appt. Two days later, an hour after my contractions started I was at the hospital and at 8cm. My DD was born 2hrs later. I still believe that being that dilated that early made for a quick & smooth labour - hopefully you'll have the same experience. Good Luck!

    Aww.. thanks ladies!  I do feel lucky that I am so far along and that I will be at least half way there when I do go to the hospital! I will try to stay positive! I sent my husband a text and said "I am turning off my phone, don't panic if you can't get a hold of me" So the phone is going off and I am going to clean my already clean house to get my mind off of it! If I wasn't in the middle of a 100+ heat wave in Southern California I would be out walking!

    @bomilli Good luck with your labor & delivery.. it looks like you are due a day after me! Big Smile

    I feel your frustration! I also went to the dr. yesterday and he said that I am 5cm and almost completely effaced and that he thought I would go into labor on my own within 2 days. I've been having painful contractions on, but mostly off for almost a week now. I get phone calls hourly with family and friends asking me if I'm in labor. Hope both our LO's decide to come soon!
