Trying to Get Pregnant

Had my Pre TTC Dr visit yesterday...

Even though we already started TTC - but my appointment had to be canceled and I couldnt go in for two more weeks. I wasn't going to waste any time!

So pretty much the doc said everything I thought she would, temp and OPK tests and prenatal vit and so on. But made me so sad to watch the look on her face when I told her that my last 4 cycles have been about 60 days each. She looked really disappointed for me. She said if no luck in 6 months - no matter how many cycles happed during that time she will send me to a specialist. So at least I know we don't have to wait a year.

Then I find out my insurance covers NONE of the vitamins... lovely. She gave me a 10 day sample at least so DH and I have some time to figure out an insurance switch (which we were thinking anyway) or I will see is there is another brand or a generic I can take that wont cost me $67 (!!!!!) a month.

AND I have a huge bruise on my arm from all the blood that was drawn. The tech that did the tests was so freaking hot! I wanted to sneak a pic with my camera phone he was so hot. I had to hand him a cup of pee - that was a little uncomfortable. "Here, really hot guy that I would try to slip my number too if I wasn't married, have a cup of my warm pee." lol

Ok my complaining is over... hard not to get bummed on a grey rainy day today!

  • Try the Target brand and add DHA when you get pregnant.

  • $67 on pre-natals?? Why not just get over the counter?

    Good luck!

  • I'm sorry your cycles are so long but it is good to know that you can go see your doctor in 6 months! Also, definitely try an OTC prenatal, they're just as good! I take one-a-day prenatals and I  think they are about $20 a month but I might switch to CVS brand (because they have the dha) and they are about half the price. Good luck!

  • I am going to call my doctor's office and ask about over the counter ones because that amount of money is just crazy! DH is big on the "do whatever the doctor says" kind of thinking. But when I told him the out of pocket cost he said "whoa". So I think a phone call is in order!

  • I can't believe how much prescription prenatals are! It's ridiculous-stick with OTC!!! My doctor told me that would be just as good.

  • Glad your Dr. will see you in 6 months if no luck.. The prenatals on the other hand cost a small fortune..  When we had #1, I was given a script for PNV also.  When I asked her what the difference was? - she answered, none really-you can get whatever ones you want.   I did the script ones for a while b/c they weren't that much more, but then they went to double the price and I switched to OTC quickly..

    Good Luck!

  • The prescription PNV samples my OB gave me when pregnant with DS literally ALL made me sick. (I was only taking straight up folic acid prior to actually getting pregnant...started about 6 months before we started TTC.) I went to the store and got the One A Day PNV package that has a regular vitamin and a DHA one and used those with DS. He turned out great and it only cost $13/month. :)

This time around I'm using a PNV that's a cheap one from Walmart in addition to a folic acid supplement containing DHA. They average out even cheaper than the ones I used last time around.

  • I use the Women's One a day vitamins and it comes with a bottle of DHA pills and at Wal-mart they were $15

Hope things go well for you. Good luck

  • Yea, you dont need the prescription vites. Get some OTC like Target or Walmart. They're all the same and there's no need to spend a load of money on your PNVs. Also if you find that you have trouble taking a PNV, you can take two Flinestone's Complete everyday instead.
