Is it normal for fetuses to have "quiet" days?

The baby is normally really active, but I haven't felt her much today.  I've had enough random kicks and punches to not be completely freaking out, but usually, I can't even count the number of times I feel her in a given hour and today/tonight she's been really calm in there.  I've probably only felt her twice in the past hour or so.

  • I do think that is normal and I used to freak myself out with that too. However, if you are concerned, it couldn't hurt to call.

  • I remember those with DS2, I hated them. I was always worrying.
  • It's normal, especially that early. If I was ever worried, I would drink some cranberry juice and lay down. That always got her moving.

  • At 22 weeks I don't think I was feeling either girl move consistently. There would be kicks here and there, but definitely nothing like you're describing normally. I wouldn't worry.

Also, Charlotte was always really quiet when I was active. As soon as I would sit down to rest, she'd wake up and start kicking me. There would be times I'd sit calmly for a while just to make sure everything was okay.

  • At 22 weeks, it's very possible that depending on how the baby is turned, that you can't feel her kicking.  I remember asking the same thing the 2nd time around because I was so used to feeling DS kick.  I think I might've even been closer to 25 weeks when I asked.  The Dr. told me that the baby is still so small, if they are turned certain ways, you just can't feel the kicks.
  • Yes!  My son used to do this all the time.  On these days I drank like 8 gallons of apple juice to get him moving again, just to reassure me.  Don't worry!
  • Yep, it is normal.  When I'd get freaked, I'd drink some juice or pop, or whatever, and lay on my left side.  That would usually get my girls going!
