Am I crazy? - NTTPR

We park our car in a valet garage (I use the term valet loosely as nobody ever pulls up our car for us but they do park it for us because our car is parked behind someone else and their car needs to be moved in order to park or take out our car). 

Anyway, last night DH went to the garage to get the car to run errands and the attendant was making small talk with him.  He mentioned to DH, that he felt bad that we didn't give him a tip at the holidays last year. 

DH was a little irked and just said well I was unemployed for 6 months last year.  DH is pretty upset about it because we never realy get good service there anyway and is now thinking of moving our car to another garage. 

There are at least 10 different attendant and we don't even live in the building that the car is parked in...we live up the street

 Oh btw we pay $200 a month to park there.

Are we crazy for feeling bad?

    Yes you are crazy! I wouldn't feel bad! I wouldn't tip him this year either! Angry

    I would move my car...I would have tipped a little too...you should for all services like that.  But wowee 200 bucks to park your car????  That's so nuts!

    Wow, that's obnoxious and not to mention it was 10 months ago.

    Clearly he is trying to guilt you into a larger tip this year to make up for last year. 

    Don't move your car if you like it there and don't tip him this year either...

    I disagree! Sure, if they went somewhere like out to dinner or a hotel.  They pay a monthly service and this guys salary is paid thru that. Yes, they could have given a gift tip over the holidays, but that is optional! It is rude of the guy to mention it in the first place. Doesn't sound like they do enough to warrant any tips, holidays or otherwise. JMO! Stick out tongue

    I don't think it's completely necessary to tip, especially paying $200 a month and having been unemployed for 6 months. Tipping at a restaurant or something like that-definitely. But come on. These days, there are tip jars at ice cream parlors, car washes...the list goes on. If you didn't feel they did anything above and beyond to warrant a tip, don't tip. And don't feel guilty!

    Wow! He has some nerve! I don't think I'd be tipping much either if I already had to pay $200 a month. I'd definitely be moving my car to another garage just because I'd be worried he'd hold a grudge and F* with my car.

    Personally (now understand I am a city girl living out in the country now so we don't have to deal with this stuff), it creeps me out that he even commented on it (to the point you better not be leaving valuables in your car!)  My husband and I are both big tippers for s**t jobs and face it---valet=s**t job!  Everyone starts somewhere.  I think it was absolutely tacky of this guy to say anything about it though.  I would be concerned for my property and that is why I would move if it were my car!!!
