when your LO won't nap...I tried putting DS down for his first nap from about 7:45am until 8:30...he would fall asleep but wake up as soon as I put him in his crib, which is unusal for him. The nanny has been trying to put him down since I started work at 8:30 and he has slept for maybe 15 minutes but is CLEARLY tired and needing a nap...
What do you do when this happens with your LO? do you eventually give in and play with them and try again later or do you keep trying until you get a good nap out of them? I hate for him to be over-tired but I also feel bad that since 7:45 all he hasn't done anything besides be rocked and held...with that said, I'm not sure he'd even be able to play since he's sooo tired.
Looking forward to reading what you would do in this situation
Re: what do you do
This might not be the "right" thing to do, but it works for DS. If he is tired, but won't nap, I take him in his room, lay down a waterproof pad, take of his diaper and let him roll around.
He loves it and moves around like crazy. Usually, he rolls onto his side and sticks his fingers in his mouth and starts to hum. When he does that, I know that he is ready to sleep. I put a diaper on him and put him down in the pnp. He naps the best when we do this because he wears himself OUT. If he is already tired, this routine takes maybe 20 minutes. GL!
Ooo! I'll have to give that a go too! Thanks! I love hearing what other mom's do...there are so many little tricks that we can learn from one another!
DH and I have been trying to decide at what point trying to put Anna down so she'll nap for 45 minutes becomes insane. A half hour? An hour? An hour and a half? lol
We'll usually try getting her to go down for as long as she's not upset. When she starts crying in any way other than her typical "tension-relief" cries, we stop trying to help her sleep and play a bit. Usually she'll want to nurse or have a bottle soon after that and fall asleep while eating. Also, if she's slept for longer than 10 minutes and wants to get up, up she gets. Sometimes she'll go back to sleep quickly if she's only been down for a few minutes, but usually she seems to think she's been sleeping for, like, ever and is all smiley play-time baby.
