I prefer my son to not STTN because when he does the night ends around 5 am (4:40 am to be exact this morning). I do all the normall pm waking stuff-nurse/rock- but he will not go back down. He is awake and ready go. Then he was ready for a nap at 7am. I'm sure there's probably no help for this, but urrrgh, I'm so tired and it makes for a very long day.
Re: pre-5am risers help
Can't offer any help on this one. My LO is also an early riser although thankfully she will go back to sleep. It doesn't matter how early or late she goes to bed, she will usually wake up about 4:00 AM which kills me because I need to get up at 5:00 for work. If she wakes up at 4:00, I know I'm up for the day.
My DS was exactly like that when he was on the verge of STTN (10-12 months). If he woke up to nurse at 2 or 3, he would go back to sleep for a few hours. If he slept through, he'd be up at 4 or 4:30 and there was no getting him back to sleep, even after nursing. Gradually, he started sleeping till 4:45, then 5ish, now we are at about 5:15. He is just shy of 14 months now. I am so looking forward to the 6am days, maybe in a few more months!
I started giving him a snack before bed, which seems to help a little. (He weaned himself around 11 1/2 months.)
Hang in there!
