3rd Trimester

So... what do you do with all of the stuffed animals LO gets?

Save them up? Keep the best ones? We got like 10 stuffed animals at our shower last weekend. They are all cute and everything but I can't possibly put 10 stuffed animals around the room and I refuse to get one of those net thingys.

Should I just make a bin in her closet and throw them in there for when she is older? Although I'm sure she'll have tons more by then. Oh no. I can see it already. LOL I HATE stuffed animals! HATE.

I put a few in her bookcase but there are still 7 left!

Help!!!

  • We bought a toy box so all of her little buddies are hanging out in there for now.

I am also not a fan of stuffed animals, but was big on them when I was little. (I always had a Care Bear or a Pound Puppy in my arms!)

  • I am in the same situation. We are doing DS room in a jungle theme, and I got 15 little monkeys at the baby shower. I have not clue what to do with them . His room is not that big and they will just collect dust.

I am just going to keep the really cute ones and put them away for him , and when he gets a little older he can play with them. I am with you about the net thing..... I hate it !

  • I'm no help. I put them up in a net and then the ones that aren't fitting in there are on the bottom shelf of the bookcase/changing table.

  • I got a bunch for DS's baby shower and he continues to collect all the time. Most of them are just shoved in his toy box, some are stored away in his closet in a plastic bin.

I was thinking of getting this. Better than the net IMO.

  • Care bears and pound puppies, I can live with.  Its the random animals I have trouble deciding whether or not to keep.  We have two of the ceiling net things full.  I have debated going through and skimming down, but I figure I'll let her do it when she gets a little older and we move to a new house. Some of those animals were life savers for me (the monkey from the zoo, for one, got us home when we forgot the blankie *gasp*) so they are slightly sentimental, I don't know if we could part with them or not.

Additional note: We have an over the door shoe rack, also, that we use to keep the beanie babies.

  • Stuffed animals are the worst. I would try to pick out 2 or 3 that are really cute and you think she might want to use as a lovie and put the rest away. Then, when she gets older you can see how much interest she has in them before you decide whether to give them away or if you have another DC, you can pass them on.

  • HIDE THEM!

We made the mistake of always keeping DS's stuffed animals where he could see them, play with them, etc., & now he has like a stuffed animal fetish (he's 3). He has a closet full of stuffed animals, and no lie, sleeps with about 13 stuffed animals in bed with him, 4 of which he has to tote around with him everywhere. It gets really irritating keeping up with the stuffed animals, and I really wish we would've just done away with them in the beginning. 1 or 2 is okay, but 30 is ridiculous.

  • We put a few of our favorites out and the rest are being kept in a big plastic storage bin for her to pick from later...

  • Good question. We've bought a few that are safari themed, and luckily haven't gotten many more! It's bad that I don't want other people giving them to him, because they'll probably be ugly and won't match anything! I know it's coming though. I'm probably going to keep them in a bin in the closet for him. I hate clutter and hate walking into a kids room with stuffed animals everywhere!!

On a side note, my niece has umpteen million. I had to go through them with her before their last yard sale and it was ridiculous what she was so attached to! Ugh!

Awww, Pound Puppy! I totally forgot all about those! :)

  • I share the same hate for them as you. As a kid I remember moving a few times, and it seemed like as many as we threw away, there were still a million. I saved 3 of the better stuffed animals for DD... the rest either went to friends having kids, or Goodwill. I feel bad, but I have no place for them, they get dirty and you can't really clean them, etc, etc, etc. The hard thing is Easter = stuffed bunnies from at least 3 people, Valentine's Day = a bunch of cheesy CVS little stuffed animals... you get where I'm going... it's a vicious cycle.

  • I think it's important to limit the number of stuffed animals -- otherwise the pile of them just sit around collecting dust and most of them never get played with anyway. Pick a couple favourites... it's more special that way. I always had a couple favourite stuffed animals as a kid... the rest I didn't care about at all.

    I'll love you forever,
    I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.

  • Any stuffed animals that I think are especially cute and are from close family, I may keep.  I'm thinking 5 maximum.  All the others will be donated to the Christmas toy drive in our area.

We have yet to receive any, but my shower is just after my 37 week mark, so we'll see how many we get then.

Well, that one actually made it to the shelf over the window... our room is sea animals.  lol!

  • I got a ton when I had DD. I kept the good ones, or the ones that were more sentimental I guess I should say and I took the rest to the police department. They give them to kids who are in accidents or witness crimes, they use them to calm them down in bad times. I remember when my mom passed away and the EMTs came they gave me a stuffed animal and I had it for a long time. So it was the best thing I could think of to do with them.

my son is the same way but he is now 6! And believe me he notices when one is missing too! Nip it in the bud NOW while you still can.

I would keep a few really nice/cute ones and then donate the rest. Those things collect dust like you wouldn't believe!!!

This is what I'm doing.  I've kept one really cute stuffed elephant (white with big pink polka dots--it really is adorable and I don't normally like stuffed animals) and two lovies--those blankets with an animal head attached.  I want to give her a selection to choose her "special toy" from, but if she's going to drag something around everywhere I want it to be cute, at least.

    Everything else is being donated.

  • Keep a few that you like and donate the rest to Toys for Tots.  There are plenty of needy kids that would love them.  This is what I am doing with excess toys and gifts that we get.

    https://www.toysfortots.org/donate/toys.asp

Oh -- and BRU and Toys R Us are also drop sites for Toys for Tots, so it is pretty easy.

  • Both girls have 2 shelves hung pretty high in their room for all the stuffed animals, they look cute sitting up there and they're out of the way ;) I think my DD has asked only once to get them down to actually play with them.
