My MIL actually found these names and suggested them. She works in medical records. DH and I don't like "too common" names and wanted something unique. When I heard them I fell in love. We weren't planning on having their names begin with the same letter, it just worked out that way. We are pretty set on these names, but i still would like your opinoins. What do you ladies think?
Tage Allan & Taylen Dale
So far i've had good reviews from friends, but would like some more opinions. No matter what, their middle names will be Dale & Allan (family names). I think they fit nicely though.
Thanks in advance for your opinions!
Re: twin boy names
Oh...dear.
I think Allan and Dale are wonderful middle names. And that's about it.
Tage and Taylen? Is Tage pronounced like Sage, but with a T? Taylen sounds like a butchered version of Taylor or some randomized spelling of some -len name. They're bad..I'm sorry.
I would really find something else. There are plenty of unique, uncommon names that aren't THAT crazy out there like Tage and Taylen. I would definitely keep looking.
You need to come on the Baby Name board more often, my friend.
Your responses are refreshing, to say the least
I
Baby Names! I was going to share my superspecial boy twin names, but I decided against it...
Ooooh!! Do tell! Do tell!
Well, my (nonexistent/ imaginary/ fantasy) twin boy names are Atticus & Lincoln... or maybe Schmatikus & Dinken in this case...
Awww. Well, I LOVE (okay, absolutely ADORE Atticus...To Kill A Mockingbird is my fav book, EVER) and Lincoln is just wonderful...I'm born on Lincoln's birthday, so I've always had an affinity for the name and for him in general. Great choices, Ablou. Schmatikus & Dinken....ummmmm can I buy a vowel?
I've always loved what those two names represent, and it wasn't until recently that I realized that they go together really well.
Schmatikus --- that has 3 vowels! Dinken has 2! (or do you think it should be Dinkun?)
okay...well thank you for your opinions. Your rudeness was not needed though.
Sorry peaches. Those names are just plain bad bad bad. Like sending Lindsey Lohan out on a beer run bad.
Aw, kiddo...that wasn't rude. We were just being honest.
Can I ask really how you're pronouncing them? Is Tage like Sage with a T?
Yes Tage is pronounced Sage with a T.
And for the other PP, it is not just a name I "made up". It is actually a name of Danish origin.
The middle names are nice.
the first names are horrible. really really bad.
If you didnt want opinions you shouldnt have asked.
Sorry but I dislike Tage and Taylen. If you hadn't made it clear here that you are naming boys, I would have assumed that they were girls names.
I can understand the desire to choose a less common name. But personally I would scale the uniqueness back slightly for names that are easier to pronounce, spell and more clearly indicate that your children are male. Have you considered Gage instead of Tage?
Some other suggestions (in case you are interested): Kane, Drake, Killian, Blake, Dean, Pierce, Griffin, Asher, Clark, Reid, Everett, Nolan, Heath, Bennett, Dawson
Yea... I have to agree that these are not good names. Sorry!
I have three issues.
1. They aren't really unique because they are following some current trends - with just the letter "T" thrown in front to make them "different". It is a unique fail IMO.
2. They are matchy matchy. I don't like box-set twin names.
3. They sound very "teen mom". Low class, trying to hard, etc.
Dale and Allen are very nice middle names. I would suggest looking for new first names and not by listening to your mom's fave medical record finds. Go onto some baby naming sites and look for yourself. There are tons of GREAT names that are underused, not trendy, not misspelled, and that won't sound dated in 5 years.
Good luck!
I'm sorry, but I think your friends were being polite. Those are just bad.
I like the middle names.
My thoughts exactly. Those are bad names for either gender, but especially for boys. Girls might be able to pull them off.

They aren't being nice, they are flat out lying to you! Those names are terrible and not masculine at all. When I first read them I thought they were girl names because I have a niece named Taylin. I'd keep looking if I were you so you kids don't grow up to hate you for giving them such awful names.
Tage doesn't show up on my reliable sites, but I'll leave it to other sleuths to find it if it's a real name. Every time I try to Google it, it keeps wanting to correct me with 'name tag'.
Taylen is a made up spelling. It's been suggested on Behind the Name (a reliable resource on the etymology of words) that it's feminine. These, however, are masculine...

That said, I don't like any of them.

This is why I like the idea of posting on an anonymous baby name board, you get absolutely honest responses because no one is worried about hurting your feelings or you holding it against them that they didn't like your baby's name (which I imagine is what is happening to you).
Tage & Taylen sound very feminine. I could tell though that you were aiming for the same sound as "Sage" so I guess the pronunciation difficulty is not too high IMO. Taylen sounds very very trendy (which would make it not unique at all). I like pp's suggestion of Talan rather than Taylen, it's very similar but feels more masculine to me and is easily recognizable as male IMO. Also, I would consider that name unique instead of trendy.

I didn't find a Tage, but I did find the Danish Tyge.

I'm guessing that it was borrowed and morphed like many modern American names seem to be.
Teague might be another option for you...it's Irish.

I definitely agree.
Look, there's a difference between some mixed reviews and these kinds of responses.
Sometimes, you just shrug it off and take the "You can't please 'em all" attitude.
But this time, you should just listen to the random strangers trying to prevent you from branding your twins with bad names.
Dale and Allan/Alan/Allen are great, strong MASCULINE names... Pairing them, actually, PRECEDING them with trendy-made-up-feminine names is not a good idea.
While finding and deciding on baby names can be exhausting and tedious, it is SOOOOO worth it!! Please keep looking.
