pooping during labor?

What are your opinions on cleaning your system out (enemas, stool softeners) before you go into labor? I am being induced on friday, and asked my doctor today. She said it was a personal preference. She also said everyone poops during labor! I knew that it was a possibility, but didn't know that it was guaranteed to happen.

I was induced with my DD, and they told me not to eat or drink anything after midnight the night before my 7 AM induction. I made an effort to poop before I went to the hospital and didn't poop on the table.

With DS, I went into labor naturally and didn't really have time to clean out my system or anything and I did poop! DH laughed Embarrassed

I didn't poop during labor. Not everyone does. I didn't do an enema or anything either. I was induced. I pooped that morning before my induction started.

It isn't a guarantee all the time, but if you have anything in your colon, the baby's head is going to squish it out like a thumb on a tube of toothpaste. So if that bothers you, it's up to you on the enema.

eh, my body cleaned itself out before I went into labor and I still went a little during labor. If you poop, than your pushing correctly

. The nurses and your OB are so used to it.

I was induced and didn't poop on the table either. I only pushed for 20 minutes so that could have something to do with it. I also didn't eat after 8PM the night before I was induced..

Try not to worry about it.. When it's time to start pushing you just don't care! :-)

this except I wasn't induced. the week before I went into labor I was very regular. That helped a lot. Plus the whole not eating thing because contractions made it hard to even breathe..there wasn't a whole lot in there to begin with.

It isn't so bad to poop. It at least means you're pushing right! ;-)

All I know is it hurt like hell and I didn't care at all if I pooped or not. Although neither my dh or my mom will look me in the eye when the subject comes up. So I'm guessing I pooped ;-) they hv done kind of unspoken agreement about it.

I pooped. Oh well. I couldn't do anything to stop it, and really didn't feel embarrassed by it, mostly because I was trying to push out a 10 pound kid!

I have had 3 kids and I have no idea if I have pooped while delivering or not. I have never asked my husband and he has never volunteered the information. I never did anything to prevent pooing. It isn't a big deal.

I was worried about this a little but never thought of cleaning out before labor. Im not sure if I went before hand but I did not poop on the table. BUT once the urge to push started I was trying to poop on the table I was convinced if I pooped they feeling would get better it was horrible.

I wouldn't do any of that because if I remember right, you have to poo before you can leave the hospital, and since I prefer going home, I would want as much poo in me so I can get some out later. The other thing is don't think I poo'ed with either child, but if I did- no one told me, the doc/nurses/ or husband. And I do think my husband would say something. A lot of "stuff" comes out down there - poo is cleaned up along with everything else.

As my midwife told me, everything is cleaned away so fast you wont even know it. I wouldn't stress yourself it seems like a huge deal right now but in all honesty this is nothing! They have seen much worse. I had to laugh when they showed us the water birthing tub that we are going to try and the actual "fish net" used to grab any poop that happens to come out. Whatever works!

I don't think its necessary. My body um, naturally, cleaned out its system while I was in labor. Pooping was the least of my concerns.

I'm pretty sure I pooped when I had my DD. It's kinda embarrassing but I wouldn't do an enema or anything to prevent it. Like others have said, the nurses & OB are used to it and they clean it up so fast.

Yep, I pooped. DD was born a few hrs after I'd had dinner, sorry, gross.

I had awful diarrhea during labor with O and I still pooped on the table. It is what it is...
