Lovenox to the hospital- can I bring my own?

Just a quick question for you ladies...

My insurance requires us to pay 10% of the hospital stay/bills, up to $2500 per patient (me and LO EACH).

I know I will be on the Lovenox 60mg afterward, just like last time for 6 weeks...and I usually get mine via mail order, which is MUCH cheaper.

i have 5 boxes here that I will certainly have left overs from (esp with swithcing to Heparin in a few weeks)...so my q is -

Can I bring my own Lovenox to the hospital? I already paid for it- no need to pay again?

Thanks!

  • They probably will not let you use your own. When I was in the hospital before ds#2 was born I was on labetalol for my bp and brought my own and they wouldn't let me take it. In fact they were mad that I had even brought it. They took it to their pharmacy to have it checked (as if I would lie about what type of med it was) then made my dh bring it home. I would check w/ the hospital about their policy first.

  • I agree with pp, most likely they will not let you use it.  However, it can't hurt to bring it and ask.  When I was in the hospital for dehydration, I brought my zofran and they took it from me and put some sticker on it saying it was "okayed" by their pharmacy.
