I work for a small law firm and business has been very slow. He has decided that my next check will be my last until things pick up. Because our office is so small I cannot get COBRA and DH's job does not offer medical. I have no idea what I am going to do.
Re: My boss gave me a two week notice
Google. There are quite a few insurance companies out there that are decent not too expensive.
you can try to apply for PCAP which helps women who are pregnant and do not have insurance.
If you do not qualify for that you may qualify for medicaid HMO's. AFter that check with your local county or state hospitals hospital. In Ny we offer financial assistance to those who do not qualify for medicaid but still need assistance. I'm not sure about other states programs though.
FYI - medicare is for the elderly. medicaid is what you are looking for. and there are often lots of options for assistance if you are unemployed and expecting. just go to talk to a social worker through your county's social service program.

Thanks! See how much I know. I have never even drawn unemployment. I have a lot to learn. I hope I can get some help, with all this money I pay in. But I have known people in the past that needed it and got turned down.
What state do you live in?
Most states offer a guarantee issue policy as long as you have HIPAA rights (18 months of continuous coverage without a 63 day lapse). Some states offer better programs then other.
Google : "state" guarantee issue health insurance or "state HIPAA plan"
Also, even though you work for a company that is under 20 and they do not offer COBRA they may have to offer state continuation. Works like COBRA but may not last as long.
The problem with the "mini contination plan" is that my boss is letting everyone go, so the group plan will no longer be there. You must 2 employees to keep the plan working. I will google. Thank you.
Oh man, I'm sorry you have to deal with this right now. I hope your able to find something.
BTW, your little one is a total cutie!
You may want to see how much it would cost to purchase insurance through a group plan through an organization such as the Farm Bureau. I paid for COBRA a number of years ago and found the same plan through the Farm Bureau for so much cheaper per month than COBRA through my old company. I had to join the Farm Bureau for a small fee but saved a lot of money.
