if your stroller has a bassinett (bugaboo, uppa, etc)

When did you switch from the bassinet (or carseat) to the regular stroller seat? DS is 4.5 months and he's getting so heavy that I can barely carry him in the carseat anymore and he has hated the bassinet since day one.

We have a bugaboo so you can tilt back the seat when they're little...but I don't want to switch over if it's too early (does he have to be able to hold his head up?).

  • We have a Teutunia and we still use the bassinet for walks. I also have a Chicco Keyfit30 and Cortina Stroller and still use them as a travel system. I have put her directly in the stroller as well and she did fine. I think I will switch her out of the bassinet feature when she is too long (she is getting close) and will stop using the carrier when she gets too heavy.

  • We have the Bugaboo and I switched from the bassinet to the seat when my son was 4 months old.  I used full recline (flat) until he could sit up on his own at 6 months and then I used the 2nd position forever.  I think I finally felt comfortable enough with 3rd position when he was 13 months, it is very straight up and down.  Oh and when you finally go to the 3rd position, use the bumper bar!!  It is a must because the straps suck in my opinion on the Bugaboo.  You will see what I mean eventually, they don't stay tight very well and are always falling down.  Drives me nuts.

My son enjoyed the seat so much more then the bassinet, he was just getting to be nosy enough where I didn't think he liked hiding in the car seat or bassinet anymore, it is hard for them to really look out.

  • Thanks! I think i'll put it together this weekend and give it a try. If DS doesn't like it, we always have the carseat.

  • As long as they can hold their head up you are fine to switch, most of them have guidelines in the instructions.

Ours (bumbleride) has a bassinet too, we have never used it attached to the stroller, she hated it, but we used it for her to sleep in at a friends and my mom's so at least it came in handy. She's not overly happy in her carseat either so I think I am going to switch her over soon too.

  • When they can hold their head up (moderate head control) you can switch. I switched to the seat at about 4.5 and just had it reclined all the way back (we have the UPV).

  • Uppa here. I took DS for his first ride in the big seat at 5 weeks, using a Snuzzler. He wasn't digging riding around in the bassinet anymore, and I dislike using the infant seat unless we are taking a car ride (we live in a city and don't have a car.) We're still using the Snuzzler and probably won't take it out for another month or two.
  • We have the UPV and never used the bassinett. It's still in the box actually. My LO had reflux and didn't like being flat, and she's always been too curious to lay completely flat. We used her carseat until about 3.5 months and then moved to the toddler seat on the UPV. I reclined it about half way and she has done fine in it since then. Now she sits on her own and we don't recline it at all.
