The semen softens the cervix, helping you efface and dilate, so I am told. But I wouldn't know because DH won't give it up. I am overdue and this is my last thing to try to make this baby come out! I think I am going to sneak attack him tonight.
most will say yes, but for as many ive heard that it worked for is the same as the ones who nothing will work for. nothing is working for me but i just finally got to have sex today because i had a bacterial infection and couldnt for over a week We will see if it works.
The prostaglandins soften the cervix..it only works when the baby is ready.
Yep. This exactly. I wasn't told to refrain from sex weeks before I was due. In fact, my doctors (and the nurses in L&D) told me to engage in sex often since it can help to start the process along.
Are you thinking of refraining from sex after you give birth?

Of course for the early weeks right after labor... until I get the all clear. I just hear so many myths about how to induce labor and so does DH. He is convinced that he will send me in to labor. Like I said, I believe baby will come when baby is ready.
I've been having sex every other day or so the last couple of weeks and I am not effaced or dialated at all. I've also tried walking, evening primrose oil, spicy food, exercises from spinning babies, and nothing. It may help speed things up if the baby is on its way, but if its not, I don't anything helps but time.

At 39 weeks 4 days, sex threw me in L&D with false contractions. They went on all night until they stalled out and I was sent home. 4 days later I went into labor on my own.

Oh, I get what you were saying now. Wow! Serious lack of comprehension on my part!
If you are already dilated some it may help you dilate some more and to soften the cervix but that is about it. Sex by itself will not bring on labor; your own body has to start that process.

I think it's really the only OWT that has a medical basis (semen is very chemically close to the artificial drug they use to soften/ripen cervix). But you are right, unless baby is ready, nothing will "send" you into labor.
that being said, I made H do me last night so I could have his semen. LOL
