I'd like to make my own mobile for our little girl's nursery and I need some inspiration or ideas. Would you mind sharing pictures and maybe some directions on how you made them?
I bought everything at Michaels for less than $15. 2 embroidery hoops (painted brown). Traced the birds by hand from a little bird figurine I had at home. Used 3 colors of scrapbook paper (the thicker cardstock kind). Hung with fishing line (look in the jewelry/beading section). And tied the hoops together with brown ribbon (I made the inner hoop sit lower than the outer loop). Used a little hot glue to make sure everything was secure.
There are 8 strings of birds on the outer hoop and 6 strings on the inner hoops. There are 4 birds on each line of fishing wire- I just tied double knots to hold them in place but someone else suggested using little beads- that would have been so much easier and probably more secure! It will take a little while to figure out the spacing but once you do that, it goes pretty fast. If you don't want to cut the shapes by hand, look for a shape cutter- some people found butterfly ones at Michaels but I knew I wouldn't be able to find the bird shape that I wanted so I just went with what I had on hand.
This is one I made for our gender neutral owl/woodland themed nursery. I just cut out pieces of felt, sewed them together, and used buttons for the eyes. I cut two branches from a tree in our backyard, attached them together with ribbon and then hung all the pieces using clear jewelry thread(you can find it at hobby lobby or joanns)
i didn't take a pic yet - just finished it today.... but I purchased this photo mobile and printed pictures of our immediate family - on one side is a current picture and the other is their baby picture. I backed it on different color/pattern scrapbook paper from AC MOORE...it's soooo cute and LO loves it!
