Trying to Get Pregnant

ambien

So before I get tons of hate for using a medication that shouldn'tbe taken while pregnant let me explain for a minute.

I take ambien maybe twice a week, because I cant deal with 4 hours sleep every night. Back when I was 20 I had apacemaker put in for an AV block, the pacemaker treats my heart condition and Itake no heart related medication. The only issue is when they placed my pacerthey made the pocket to close to my shoulder. So pretty much when I try tosleep I get a pacemaker poking me. I have not had a good nights sleep sense2003. This lack of sleep has led to migraines. My doc put me on the ambien toresolve both those issues. To get the okay to start trying I had 6 appointmentswith 6 different doctors. They said the Ambien was fine until I got aBFP.

Anyone else have a similar experience with the medication, have your doctors offered any more baby friendly options?

Re: ambien

  • Um, not being able to sleep for the rest of my life because some a$$hat didn't put the pacemaker in the right spot, doesn't sound like something to be fixed with medicine.  Can they move the pacemaker?

  • Have you ever tried Melatonin or Unisom?  I'm pretty sure that those are both baby safe...

The surgeon that did the first surgery is atotal ass, thank god he is retiring soon. When they put the new pacemaker inthey will move the pocket to under my breast. Were looking at 5-7 years forthat though. It's pretty major surgery so it wont be done until it needs to bereplaced.

  • I have not been on Ambien, well that's not true, I tried it years ago, but it actually made me sleep worse than without it.  I have a sleep disorder, so I definately understand what you're going thru with lack of sleep.  Anyhow, my OB told me that only thing that is safe during pregnancy is Unisom.  Ambien is pregnancy Catergory C, which basically means they don't know if it's harmful or not.

  • I loved being on Ambien because I slept wonderfully but my pocketbook couldn't take it. I was one of those "take an Ambien and get online" people and packages started showing up at my door and I had no relcollection of how they got ordered. Anywhoo, I switched to taking a Melatonin and a Benedryl every night. I didn't sleep as hard as I did on the Ambien but it helped my get my sleep cycles back on track. Now I don't need anything to sleep. My OBGYN said that Benedryl was safe for TTC but she didn't recommend the Melatonin.

I hope you can get things worked out. Sleep deprivation is a so frustrating. GL!
